should i replace original 275,000 coil packs?

i get sputtering in the morning, and she's running kinda rough right now. otherwise after she warms up she runs great. plugs are at 40,000 as well, so i will do them together. anything else i'm missing?

Check plugs as the first culprit. If bad, replace with NGK plats or coppers.

If good, do the unplug a coilpack one at a time trick and listen for a change in RPM. If no change, then you've narrowed down the cylinder and coilpack/injector.

Swap coilpack with another cylinder. Repeat test and see if the no change in RPM moves with the coilpack. If so, that's your coilpack to replace. If not, then it could be the injector failing on the original cylinder.

No, unless they are new OEM. Parts store replacements are worse than high mileage wrecking yard coils. I have 322K on my originals.

sweet, good to hear that. Wizard, i've done that before and i know that's the way to go, just wasn't sure at my mileage if i should replace or not. i'm doing the plugs today, throttle body cleanout, etc. went to my body shop yesterday to get an estimate for more rust that's breaking through the rear passenger side quarter and on the back rail as well, 500.00 and my guy's going to do all the rust and repaint rear door, rear quarter, rail, blend into roof. woot!!!

so, i pulled the plugs after checking codes ( had a random misfire code ) and the rear middle was shot, cracked, and i'm wondering what caused it? maybe the last time plugs were done my tech at the time over-tightened that plug?? put all new ngk double plats in, drove her down the road and she was cruisin"!! not super fast, but for 274,000 i was happy. no more sputtering on start-up and i'm sure gas mileage will improve a bit if i can keep my lead foot off of the gas.

started the max up tonight and i'm still getting a little sputter noise, maybe my aftermarket exhaust is affecting idle? i think it always did, car got quiet and settled down after a few minutes, timing chain tensioner has made noise since i got the car at 129,000, so i guess at 275,000 i should count my blessings.

aftermarket exhaust has nothing to do with how it idles at startup, or warm for that matter.

i have no codes right now so whats causing the startup sputter? it's better now but still a little rough. i'll check the air filter tomorrow and listen for any hose leaks. what else?

so, i take maxy out for a spin and the sputter is still there. not so much at start up but after going around the block a mile or so i'm at sonic and in drive getting ready to order and here comes the sputter again. i call my mechanic and he says he knows whats wrong, timing chain is stretched out?? i thought maybe it can cause rattle when the guides wear out but uneven idle?? is there any truth to this??

That is the one. Many people only replace the bad one. They can last a very long time. Many of the ones at the junkyard could be purchased cheap, and last for years.

If you replace only stuff which really does need to be replaced, you might have money available for other repairs.

Hmm sounds like the upper intake manifold gasket is bad...when its cold the gasket is not sealing until the car warms up

Yes but buy them from Amazon as there cheaper and ships much faster with 30 day return Window and it comes with a 1 year or 12,000 mile warranty. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004A0...yTL&ref=plSrch
