the brake drag was caused by the hose

I put up with the right front caliper dragging for maybe 9 mos (I replaced it myself but it was exactly the same afterwards), but it got so bad that the last time it was 70F out, it completely locked.

Since I've never flared a line I didn't want to mess with it in case it broke....shop charged me around $90 to do the hose plus bleed...now she rolls back on hills again.

(p.s. wife wants me to get rid of this car, she rarely drives it now)

P.p.s my concern was if it's not the hose, what's next, ABS module? Wife's uncle said on 2 A6's that he has, even though ABS was not functioning, a faulty module caused brake drag. And when looking online at the ABS modules for our cars, good luck. I do not believe anyone repairs them, so now we're relegated to used, which may or may not have the same issue, for a hundred or two.....

The DSC hydro (aka ABS pump) failed on my BMW, and it's a $3,400 job at the dealer, but $250 DIY thanks to legit rebuilds, better than original (OEM is flawed design, affects BMW bikes as well). There is no $250 for the Maxima, which was my concern. And it is all rusted under the hood....

That $16 hose caused a lot of grief

Had to replace my passenger side brake hose. Not sure if the caliper was sticking but braking power was dramatically reduced.

My car was pulling to the right, then not releasing, but when weather was hot, completely locked.

Did you diy and have any trouble getting it off? I assumed it would break from being on the car 18 years....shop said it was not a problem.

I did them a favor and sprayed it with PB Blaster the day before, not sure if that helped. Would have loved to have paid $16 instead of $90....but I just look at it as though the way the car drives today, is worth $90.

And plus the lesson learned, the hose is definitely the next step in troubleshooting.

no I paid to have it done for $80 about 3 years ago on my 97 auto. I believe the hardest part about it is bleeding the brakes. I would have gone the DIY route but bleeding brakes I've never attempted and need a partner for, which I usually dont have.

Gotcha...when I first replaced my caliper, hoping it was the culprit, it was acting really weird....took a lot of pumps it seemed to fill it....then when I did open the bleeder, it was like an explosion, not the normal trickle...maybe this is a clue that will help someone else when/if this happens....
