Stiffer detent ball return springs?

I was browsing the sr20 and ka fourms and saw that HKS made a stiffer detent ball package that made the shifter more "erect" in a manor of speaking. If anything it makes shifting more comfy for heavy handed people and that's why I'm here. Does anyone offer stiffer return springs or would I have to go to somewhere like tractor supply to find a spring that's of size and strength. The HKS kit had 2 diffrent feel setting, medium and hard I believe.

Is this in reference to a 5 speed or 6 speed?

Interesting...you just gave me an idea. My 6 speed pops out of gear in 6th, and sometimes 5th...research shows me it's a fairly common issue on this transmission. I wonder if a stiffer ball detent spring would alleviate the problem...and as relates to your question, I'm wondering if the detent springs are not fairly similar, if not identical, between the SR20/K and Maxima/Spec V Sentra. Even if the part numbers are dissimilar, I've found Nissan often uses completely different part numbers and application info for the identical part.

There job is to hold the gear in place from what I under stand, if you look through out max fourms and sa20 there's plenty of people who drained fluid out of the wrong hole of the manual trans and droped the ball and spring as well. They complained about popping out of gear most of the time. In your case the spring may have lost it's tension and the ball is letting the gear slide back out.

Some new springs will hold it in place, but stiffer springs will "lock" it in place and feel a heck more solid. You can shift harder and the springs will absorb some of that force going into gear.
