Air only blows from dash vents, not defrost or feet vents

In our '90 SE, the vents have stopped blowing air from anywhere but the dashboard. No air from the defrost vents at the windshield; no air at the feet vents.

The controller on the dashboard appears to work normally. Each button for controlling where the air blows from lights up when pressed. But no matter which one is pressed and lights up, the air always comes from the dash vents.

Any suggestions? I looked at the fuse box and checked those that sounded like they could possibly be related, but all were fine.

possibly the blend door is stuck or the blend door actuator is faulty, you would likely have to dig around in that area and test it to be sure

Check your blend door actuator. IIRC it's the one on the bottom left on driver side next to gas pedal on side of air box. Check the linkages there.

Thanks -- how would I search for a used one? At http://www.car-part.com etc. I don't see that part name.

double check but the Nissan OEM part number is 27733N by the looks of it

https://parts.nissanusa.com/nissanpa...7957&siteid=14

before you replace it i would check the linkages etc in the area of the actuator on the blower motor first

I took it to a shop and they said the blend door actuator part was bad, but that they weren't able to find a replacement part.

I tried looking at the used car part websites, but as far as I can tell they don't list that part. Any suggestions on how to look for the part?

Is it the same thing as a "heater actuator"? If so, would this be the part?

I just spoke to the mechanic again. He clarified that the part I need is the "heater actuator for the mode doors". Can anyone point me to where I can find one of those for a '90?

yes it would be the actuator for the mode doors, basically just a motor kinda deal that moves a door to divert air to defrost/foot/vent mode. however that Ebay link is for a 5th gen not a 3rd gen

Thanks, the mechanic called saying he'd found an ebay auction for the correct part. The auction was titled "89-90 NISSAN MAXIMA HEATER BOX SERVO MOTOR hvac door flap actuator". He pointed me to it and I bought it:
