is there a more conservative spring than h&r's?

i'm prob one of the only max owners who is looking for this, but does anyone make a spring that is SOFTER and DOESN'T DROP the max as much as h&r's? i know my best bet would be stock SE springs (i have gle springs) but the car sits so high with them.
..please don't flame me for asking this but what about cutting just one coil from the SE springs? would this still be dangerous? when i did a search, people kept saying cutting springs is bad, but in response to people with aftermarket springs and wanting to cut 2 or more coils. also, i think the se springs have 2 coils that are sitting on top of each other - wouldn't it be ok then to cut one because it's acting as a spacer? thanks.

I'm in the same boat. I want to lose the 4X4 look, but I don't want to drop 2 inches. I would like the KYB AGXs and a spring that is softer with at most an inch of drop. I feel your pain!

Try coilovers...you can adjust the height to exactly what you want.

Hmm... H&R's would be the most conservative and still retains SE-ride like quality.

It drops approximately 1.4" in front and around 1.2-.3 inches in the back.

B&G are also good. Eibach's have a drop that's more up your alley but from what i gathered they're rather harsh in terms of ride quality.

But costs a lot more. That is what turns some people away from them. I dont know about their situation if it would be best for them or not since coilovers are sometimes a little rougher.

yup i know about coilovers, but the cost amazing amounts of money that i don't have, and i am looking for a ride that is softer than H&R's and drops less than 1.5 inches. i figured there are no springs out there but i was just making sure that i didn't somehow miss the presence of springs that fit the bill.

what are your thoughts on cutting the first coil off the SE spring? this is the last thing i can think of for my situation. thanks again.

Just to reply to sprint you CAN'T search for a lot of spring info :P I am very interested in H&R and B+G springs, however both are under the character minimum which makes it very hard to search for relevant info. Eibach no problem, but unless you want to search for every instance of the word "Spring" or "lowering" you're SOL :P

"The search term you specified (bg) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. "

I guess my prob was just with B+G. You can't even search for B+G when you put quotes "B+G".

yes, but:

h&r - 1.4", 1.3"
vs.
b&g - 1.6", 1.6"
maxspeed - 1.7", 1.4"

b&g and maxspeed both drop even lower than h&r's, i am looking for springs that DON'T LOWER as much as h&r's.

no that response was to brother xHypex

FYI - you cut stock springs and they will ride harsher than Ground Control Coilovers set at 3 inch drop

have you ever RIDDEN in or SEEN a Maxima with H&R springs??? They don't even look lower...and when used in conjunction with a good strut they ride like stock springs. What's the problem here?? What you need is H&R springs and a good set of struts, you're just in denial for some reason.

I agree.. H&R's ride better than stock springs.. they have better cushioning and better road control

Yeah why would you wanna go softer than H&R? Might as well keep what you got right now then. I don't think there is any spring out there less lower/more softer than H&R and even if there was that would defeat the whole purpose of lowering your car (whether it's for handling or looks). So H&R plus some good struts (KYB AGX) is your answer.

i've ridden in my friend's max with both h&r springs and agx's and it wasn't too bad except over bumpy roads (in nyc) where it jarred the car a lot. if you say they ride like stock, i dunno maybe his shocks were set too firm? i've also read a couple of threads where people were getting tired of the harshness of this setup. also, we just had some snow in upstate ny last week and the roads turned icy. the ice/snow was scraping against the bottom of my car and this is with stock "4x4" ground clearance, so i was just wondering if there were any "conservative" springs out there but there aren't.

it was probably his dampering adjustment..

because i had H&R's and Tokico's (non adjustable) on my 95 and they rode smooth.. no problems with speed bumps or pot holes.. i used to go to NYC every weekend to Carolines Comedy Club(50th and Broadway where this weekend Tommy Davidson is performing.. call (212) 757-4100 for reservation) and it rode great.. my gf loved it too

What is the ride like in coilovers? I mean is it comparable to a certain spring or anything or is it a harsh ride?

And once again we see that WORD OF MOUTH is the best form of advertising.

Maxspeed is by far the least expensive. Look in the group deal forum. We're trying to get another group deal on these springs for $85-$95.

Price is important to me, but quality is as well. There's also a sale in the GD forum for most shocks/springs at shox.com

Good prices there also!

Just because the Maxspeed springs are half the price doesn't mean they are not quality products.

I debated on this also, but can't find anything but good experiences.
