Aftermarket Axle Output Shaft Seals
Aftermarket Axle Output Shaft Seals
Long story short I have changed out the passenger seal a couple times now. Before my engine swap I wasn't really leaking but I was changing the axle and thought might as well change the seal. I scuffed up the mating surface with a screwdriver, and I thought the replacement leaked because of that. During my engine swap I changed it again (National Brand Seal) with the PVC tool and I also dremeled down the 2 "rough" spots so the seal wouldn't tear and used RTV to seal up any possible gaps. Now I've come to realize it's leaking around the axle itself and not between the seal and trans.
So the seal must of deformed I thought, and I replaced it again this time being super careful to evenly press the seal in with RTV. I used a duralast AutoZone had in stock, and when I was pressing it in this time with a good amount of force the seal actually gave and slid in by hand with the PVC coupler. I also even greased the inside of the axle seal and carefully inserted the axle. The leak has reduced and I'm down to about 2 drops an hour.
The axle doesn't seem to have play so I don't think it's a bearing issue, and they are in fact passenger and not drivers side seals. Only put 4qts in because it's on Jack stands and I don't wanna top off til it's on level ground so it doesn't overfill and leak, which has happened to CS_AR. So what's the deal is OEM the only solution here? I'll have one on the way tomorrow
