current dilemma my 2014 cvt is whining. would it be better to just buy a new or has anyone ever rebuilt a transmission

 

I think you should get a detailed inspection, the whine might not be as much a problem as you think.

Any replacement with gears would be an upgrade.

check out the whine video in the first post on imgur. i got more ill upload. when i replaced the old cvt oil it stopped whining for a 24 hours next day its whining again so idk it might be overfilled you think? used 5 quarts to refill

 

Nissan sent out letters to all owners of a CVT transmission explaining that the transmission warranty is extended to 10 years 120k miles, free of charge, mostly because of legal and lemon laws against the CVT. I personally got one in mail as well.

 

I hope Nissan would honor the OP with an extended warranty, given his car is younger than 10 y/o and less than 120k miles.

Hopefully they'll not observe the "O'Reilly" fluid in there. Heck they even print NS2 on the damn dipstick and on the hood close to the latch area.

 

I’m gonna have to double checks. So if I want to check thay extended warranty all I have to do is call the Nissan dealership I bought the car from and see if they can do anything about it?

For that reason alone is why I always had maintenance done by the dealership so there would be no questions on proper maintenance when it comes to warranty issues. Saving a few bucks for diy and bring your own materials is not worth it.

 

Valid point. I agree %90 of the time. But,
Last CVT D/R done at my local Nissan dealership:
1. They broke the locking mechanism of the CVT dipstick
2. They overfilled the things a whole inch above the second (higher) notch, or more than a pint of excess fluid

A smart competant friend mech that you know and accompany while he works on your car would be my ideal situation. Too bad due to life commitments I moved away from such a gem friend

 

yeah they probably wont honor it imo i dont know if i should go that route since it was my fault. im just gonna have to replace it with a new one

 

I would get it checked out first and see what happens.

 

Fyi, this isn't accurate. Extended cvt warranty only applies to 2003-2010 models. OP states he has a 2014, and therefore would not be eligible.

 

Yup you are right. I just called Nissan a brand new cvt is like 2.2k I’m just gonna do that instead I’m tired of this wine

Hmm, I didn't know it cut off at 2010. I guess they changed transmission internals from 2011 onwards.

 

Yeah you were right, it’ll be rebuilt the guy explained the whole process for me over the phone gonna put my car in the shop on Monday get it fixed by them.
