i30 electric fuel door in Maxima?
i30 electric fuel door in Maxima?
The blank dashboard button next to the dashlight level wheel is annoying me.
I note that it's blank because on the i30 it's for an electric fuel door opener switch.
Has anyone tried to retrofit that into a Max?
Mine's a 1996 GLE,
I'm guessing the door/actuator and the switch are easy, the wiring is where things would get interesting.

I am assuming that there is no wiring in the Maxima since the electric fuel door opener was not an option on the 4th gen. You could look at the connectors and see if there is a wire at the appropriate pin number to match what the Infiniti uses. Maxima used the same wiring scheme as the Infiniti for the electric trunk opener, i.e., connector numbers, pin numbers, etc.
In the Infiniti, where is the button for the fuel door located? Based on connector numbers, I think it is the dash, which goes along with your blank spot in the dash comment.
The fuel door opener is a simple circuit. The way Nissan did it in the Infiniti is 3 steps. 1) 12 volts to the fuel door solenoid, 2) solenoid to the switch, 3) switch to ground. But in doing it this way, they used a lot of wire going back and forth.
Since I am pretty sure you will have to run your own wire, you would do it a little differently and use less than half the wire that Nissan used. 1) 12 volts to the switch 2) switch to the fuel door solenoid 3) solenoid to ground.
Nissan has a channel for the wires going from the dash to the trunk that runs along the floor next to the driver's side doors. Open the front and rear doors and take the sill plates off and you will see it,
If you want to do this, it is more of a pita than it is technically difficult.

Pictures of the parts can be seen here https://maxima.org/forums/4th-genera...i30-stuff.html
This guy installed it, sounded easy.

Great, now I want an auto-dimming mirror
Thanks for the help everyone, I'm going to keep an eye out for an i30 at the local Pick N Pulls to see if I can avoid trying to find parts on Ebay.
