7th Generation Maxima (2009-2015) Come in and talk about the 7th generation Maxima

Anyone using 245/45/19 instead of 245/40/19 tires on their 7th Gen?

Anyone using 245/45/19 instead of 245/40/19 tires on their 7th Gen?

I'm considering installing 245/45/19 instead of 245/40/19 tires on my 2014 sport. Anyone gone with the higher aspect ration, 45, tire? Any issues with clearance? Any issues that you noticed with handling? Does it look any different? I feel like the extra height may actually help when I inadvertently hit an unexpected pothole.

I don't consider my Maxima to be a high performance vehicle so I don't feel like I need high performance tires, brakes and so on. It just looks good and gets me around town comfortably.

Might not look right, and will slightly off your speedometer.
Maybe non-sport S wheels and 18s?

The car will only sit 1/2 inch higher so I doubt anyone would even notice. Speedometer would be 1-3 miles off, I can live with that. 19" wheels are fine and look good no reason to replace them.

Seems like you made up your mind, why bother asking then?

Edit: It will look "Altim'ish"

Please let us know how it fits and rides if you pull the trigger. I have to admit I a a bit curious.

I don't expect any issues but am hoping to hear from someone that has actually done it. I'm more concerned about clearance of front struts than anything else. Have not decided anything yet.

Hi, I did it for the same reason as you are saying. It rides a lot smoother and I think you will be happy. Yes it's about a 1/2" taller, but no issues as far as fit. I bought the car to have a 4 door sedan, but I will admit I really like the sport package and the 19" wheels look great (2014SV). I don't really consider it a sports car either, so that's why I went for the smoother ride. If I want to jam, I just drive the sports car (911).

Thanks. Do you really notice the difference in height when you look at the car? Is the difference in ride/cornering even noticeable?

You can see the difference in height when you look close, but it doesn't look out of place at all. I feel the 40 tires really help if you are cornering hard and I just don't do that with this car. It definitely rides smoother and that's what I wanted.

Thanks for posting. I'll keep that in mind. I probably won 't get new tires until the fall so I have plenty of time to decide.

Could you please share pics of your car with the 245/45/19? I’m thinking of doing the same. Will it interfere with the wheel well if I have myself and 4 adults sitting in car with me? In terms of car going low with weight?

Did you go ahead with the 245/45/19 .. ? Can you share pics please? If I have myself, and 4 other adults in the car, will it affect the space in tire wells? Like, will car go lower and hit the wells if weight is added?

No, I stuck with the 245/40/19. Although I wish I had the 45's when I hit that pothole and dented my wheel a couple of months ago. I can't say for sure but I would not have any issues with putting the slightly larger aspect ratio tire on the Maxima. I don't think there would be any problems with doing so. It may change the handling a bit but I doubt anyone would really notice. You might consider asking the local tire shops what they think.

thanks! I checked with a couple and they said ask your dealership and do what they say. Dealership says either go down to 18 rims and get 245/45/18 or keep 245/40/19.

Personally I would not take anything the dealership says too seriously. I have had lots of weight in the trunk of my car. Like many bags of topsoil or cement pavers and the rear sat very low without issues. Maybe in worst case you may get some bottoming but you would probably have to fill the car with 300lb people.. I'm not sure what that is in Kilos. Many 7th Gen owners lower their cars without issue. Personally I did not even consider that the wheel hitting the well would even be an issue. The difference in height between the two wheels is an inch. https://tiresize.com/calculator/

Looks fine. Best part is you have a bit more protection from potholes.

nice!! Do you have any problems with tires rubbing the tire space if you go on bouncy road or have heavy weight in car?

Old thread but ill chime.. I do tires Every day and I Love My maxima. The 45's should have been the stock option on the 7th gen Imo. Many Go with this size these days over the 40's Imo with the size of this car, its need some tire under it, The wheel gap killer.

hi! Thank you for your reply. So you would suggest the 45’s are a good choice then. Would it rub against the wheel well if I have like 4 other people sitting in the car? Any limitations or issues? Aside from reading speedometer showing 2-4mph slower? So if it shows 60mph, I’m really doing 65.. ?
