Replaced fuel pump, starts but doesn’t stay running.

Before the car would crank and crank like it wasn't gettin fuel. Turns out the fuel pump was going out. My fiancé has a bad habit of running it on empty.

once I replaced the fuel pump and filter I got the engine to turn over and rev once or twice but doesn’t stay running. I notice the oil is low but that should prevent it from running?
also I have jumper cables because the battery doesn’t stay charged for long.

The obvious first thing to do is add enough oil until the dip stick shows the proper amount of oil.

why is the oil level low in the first place, a leak, or neglect, or not paying attention.

it's possible that the low fuel pressure could also be due to a leaking fuel injector. That happens quite freqently now.

or it could be a leaking fuel pressure regulator.
the fuel pressure regulator has a vacuum hose on it. Remove the vacuum hose. Sniff it. If you smell gasoline or it drips gasoline, you have a bad one.

The oil was real low shortly after I did an oil change. Also, I’ve known about a small oil leak around the valve gaskets but it never was bad enough to read at a low level. Then about a month after changing the oil we had the fuel issue.

I might have put the oil filter on wrong. Or the valve gaskets got worse after the poor change. there’s oil all up and around the oil pan.

What could cause this leak? And would it prevent it from running if the oils is too low?

Possible places are a sensor O ring on that side if it's oily higher up.

if it appears to leak at the same height as the crank pully you will bed to remove the large pulley also called the harmonic balancer to change its seal.

Did you look at the fuel lines bent or crushed and did you check the FPR fuel pressure regulator. The fuel filter this can also cause the car to run like crap and mess with the fuel flow and pressure. Is the fuel pump oem or new nit a defect. The fuel injectors and fuel for leaks or smells of fuel.

It was the fuel pressure regulator

replaced the fuel pressure regulator. Started right up. Now I gotta do the valve cover gaskets and we’re back in business!

You might want to consider having at least the rear bank of fuel injectors rebuilt. They will leak sooner or later. Removing the uim an additional time or three is not fun.

Check for Fuel, Air and Spark! Make sure you are running on all 6 cylinders, sounds almost like a vacuum leak though. If you have to spray starter fluid in a intake vacuum line to see if it's a fuel related problem. If it continues to run while you spray into the induction system then it kinda tell you that you have a fuel issue. If it doesn't continue to run doing that then look at you coil pack and plugs.
