Ran out of gas now engine won't crank
Ran out of gas now engine won't crank
My car has been idle and one night I decided to turn it on while it had little gas, within 5 mins of running when it ran out of gas I heard like some kind of metal crashing sound so I rushed to turn it off. Now when I turn it on only the radiator turns on and all the lights on the dash turn on. I thought it was the starter so I changed it myself and bought a new battery to it sadly do the same thing... SOMEONE HELP!
( I added 20 dollars worth of gas idk if that helps)

How many times have you tried to start it since adding gas? It may take quit a few tries for it to fire up since the fuel pump needs to re-prime itself. Hopefully you didn't do permanent damage to the fuel pump by running it dry.
I think the real question is.......what provoked you to change the starter and battery? If I ran out of gas and the car wouldn't start after adding gas, replacing the starter and battery would never have crossed my mind. You need to double check your work regarding installation of the starter and battery. You may have installed a dud starter w/o even knowing it. Now you created more work for yourself and have to look at the starter, battery and fuel pump.
Brand new batteries can be undercharged to a point where they will not crank over the engine but will light up the interior lights. i would start there and put the battery on a charger for a couple of hours.

When it happened I brought over a mechanic and when looking through the car he said the starter was no good and when I took it out and took it to AutoZone then ran the test and told me it was dead. As for the battery I mentioned the car was idle or sitting around for quite some time and the old battery died out so that's why I bought a brand new battery and installation on battery and starter is up to par so that can't be the problem
All we know is something is preventing the car from even trying to crank.
You easily started the car and had it running for 5 minutes with the original battery, right? Then it was determined that the battery went dead.
so you replaced it. I hope you don't have other issues going on like a bad alternator, that would certainty kill a battery. I'm going to assume that the battery was replaced because it was weak and old, as you stated the car had been sitting for some time. After refilling your gas tank, try turning the key to the “On” position (turning on the electronics without cranking the engine) and then back to “Off” a couple of times to prime the fuel pump. Priming the fuel pump will help remove air that may have entered the fuel lines as a result of running out of gas.
May want to consider putting the car in neutral, grabbing the appropriate socket and breaker bar, and see if you can easily turn the crank pulley a full revolution.
While it's very unlikely, you can't simply dismiss looking at the battery and the starter just because they are new. New/remanufactured parts have been known to fail and be dead on arrival. You said the car is not even attempting to crank over. I could be wrong, but let's assume for a second you fried the fuel pump. I would still think the car would still try to crank over.

And what do mean by "grabbing the appropriate socket and breaker bar, and see if you can easily turn the crank pulley a full revolution" have no clue lol
