Battery light on 2016 maxima platinum

Hey guys so today i was driving and noticed my battery light was lit on the dashboard. Nothing else was on and no performance or anything was lost. Can it be an alternator problem? Car is a 2016 Nissan maxima platinum with 23k miles. Still kinda new for the alternator crapping out. I didnt get a chance to troubleshoot yet, just wanted some info on the potential faults it can be. Thank you in advance...

From your owners manual page 2-8

Charge warning light If this light comes on while the engine is running, it may indicate the charging system is not functioning properly. Turn the engine off and check the generator belt. If the belt is loose, broken, missing, or if the light remains on, see a NISSAN dealer immediately.

When that Battery light comes on the alternator is not charging the battery.

Yupp just saw that in the manual. Figured it was the alternator. Does anyone know if there is a diy online in how to replace the alternator? Looked everywhere couldnt find one.

You might want to scout out a local alternator shop. There are some out there that will check the alternator and replace the diodes for you (they are typically the first to go) at tremendous savings over having to buy a new one.

Thank you guys again for the help. It ended up being a bad alternator. What a nightmare it was to change it but it got done. Had to drain the coolant. Then drained the freon because the low pressure hose was in the way.

it's too late now but you should have talked to the guy that called you about an extended warranty for your car. You had your chance.

I had this same issue a little over a month ago. Ive always done the work on all my cars myself but decided the repair was more than I wanted to take on so i took it to a shop. I actually did buy an extended warranty when I bought the car. 67××× miles when it broke down. I hate going to any mechanic shop. It took them 2 days to "fix" it and as of yesterday, the dam light is back on again. I went out and bought a new battery thinking that had to be it this time.. since I got off work so late I didn't have time to get my old battery charged to see if it was good. Got home, put the new battery in and the light is still on. I wanted a better battery anyway so im going to keep the new one. I remember when I picked the car up the mechanic claimed the altenator connector just crumbled when he touched it which didn't make sense to me. They claimed the replaced it for free as it wasn't on my invoice. Im dreading taking it back to those morons. Crazy thing is the dealership is literally across the street from the shop I decided to take it to. The dealer had an almost 2 week wait to get it in at the time and I couldn't afford to wait that long.

Let me know if replacing the alternator doesn’t work I’m having the same issue on my 16 sr but I’ve put 2 new alternators in and it keeps happening but mine drops so low that I lose the gas peddle it doesn’t die but I lose most electrical components but if I let it idle for a little bit it comes back and runs fine and I’m completely lost on what it could be

So I took it back to the shop that did the work. They replaced the altenator again but battery light remained on. They ended up getting a mechanic who was savvy in electrical issues and it ended being a wire in the ECM. Thats the description they gave me. It honestly didnt sound right imo. There was nothing about that wire on the warranty invoice that they gave me. Also I, had the same issue where I loose the gas. The car remains running but virtually all electrical functions loose operability. Im not sure if it'll be cheaper to buy a new computer vs having the current computer troubleshoot and fixed. Im honestly not sure of they replaced mine or just fixed it since it wasn't on the invoice. I dont plan on going back to them anymore. If it happens again I'll just go to the dealership since they honor my extended warranty.

I'm also having the same issue and went to one of Nissan certified garages and can't find the root cause, the problem happenes on +20KM rides only so they had to take it for a long test for the issue to occur, they r currently reporting that it might be transmission issue but it is not logical at all, i'm just losing power when slowing down and can't throttle on D, while RPM jumps on P.
This problem is driving me crazy, the car has been at the garage for 15 days without any progress

Have them check the ECM. Mine ended up being a computer issue
Im betting there may be a recall on 2016 ECMs or whatever computer causes the issues were having

Did you ever fix the problem cause I’m having that exact same issue the gas pedal goes out then idling for a minute and it’s good again. I’ve looked everywhere for the solution and I’m coming up empty.

I haven’t fixed mine yet, but I’m fairly certain it’s the PCM. I’ve pretty much replaced everything else that it could be. 2 alternators, a new battery, upgraded all grounds, new positive cable, new voltage sensor, replaced relays. All that has greatly reduced the issue, but the battery light remains on. I have a feeling the new battery is what is keeping me from loosing throttle and other electronic components.
