Battled the no charge of Battery and flashing airbag and seatbelt lights
It’s been going on fo about a week. Got stranded twice because my 99 would start flashing the Airbag light along with the Seatbelt light and then come to a complete stop and unable to start. Radio would die out as well as sluggish wipers accompanied with my car bucking and jerking. Right before this started maybe a week or two prior my iPhone would overheat while charging in my car and about a week later I smelled what appeared to be burning electrical. I thought it was the alternator and bought one and installed it myself, nobody turns wrenches on MY CAR but me…. Period. The day I changed it I took a ride afterwards for about an hour and then flashing airbag and seatbelt lights followed by complete shutdown. I had been reading in the forum the past few months about others having similar issues and I was not feeling good about joining this list.
But, I did a lot of research and digging and not wanting to just throw $$ at it and trying to change different parts all ***** Nilly and fixed the issue completely.
After I got stranded a second time I had the alternator that I installed tested and tested by 3 different places, 3 tests each place. Alternator ok. I started checking fuses visually and using resistance. I found a blown AC 7.5 fuse in the compartment on drivers side. I then checked the skinny fuse box behind the driver side headlight. Fuses where ok and so where the fuseable links. I have a jewelers eye and I used it for a closer inspection. The green 30a wasn’t broken or melted but it had this light greenish build up on both sides of the copper on each 30a green fuse. I replaced all 4. Then I inspected the Alternator Wiring harness also with the jewelers eye and sure enough the plug on the harness that goes to the alternator had a tiny pinhole in the wire right before the plug. Instead of just replacing the damaged plug, I replaced the whole harness for 23$. Then to top it off I was checking belts and pulleys and my Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley were separating so I got both and replaced along with the idler pulley and both belts. Checked grounds and all looked good. Put everything back together and problem was solved and running so damn good. Hope this helps. My best advice is to stay focused and think it thru.
