Vortech has some links on their site and one is a place called Auto Specialities. I called and they will make custom steel coated aluminum idler and tension pulleys to replace the composite pulleys that came with the kit. I'll feel better with these pulleys since I'll be running 12 lbs of boost. Vortech said If a bearing locks up for just a second under high boost the plastic pulley will self destruct!

If anyone is interested, you can also get the pulleys at $85.00 a piece plus shipping and a donation 0f $5.00 to help defray the $65.00 that stillin charged me for the plastic pulleys to send to auto specialties. I must know very soon because it takes 3 weeks to make them! All money must be paid in advance, no hemming and hawing This is cheap insurance for people

 

Good job Ron,, other V-2 owners have already destroyed the pulley without 12lbs of boost. Btw, ASP also makes pulleys for the blower.

Brett, how much does ASP charge for the pulleys? If they already have the design... it would probably be best to go with them unless someone has had a problem with theirs... I assume this is for the V2 pulleys.

Will the pulley fit both V1 and V2 versions of the SC or does that even matter. For the idler and tensioner pulley I would think that they would be the same. Only pulleys on the SC would there be a difference right and one would need to be modified?

 

I'm not sure what you're asking but, I believe V1 idler pulley equals V2 tensioner pulley (V1 retains the OEM tensioner pulley). So what you want to get is the V2 tensioner pulley... this is the 2" diameter pulley with rails.

 

I have never heard of a pulley going bad with a V1 kit except for MattP's (IIRC) right before he traded in for the S4. And he had ALOT of miles on his SC. I have a spare one that happened to get thrown in with my new parts from Stillen when I bought the kit used Justin, all in all I don't think this applies really to us V1 owners. Although I would be interested in taking a look at an aluminum idler pulley if ASP has them ready to ship.

 

Lyt97SC melted his idler pulley for his V1 kit.

What size pulley are you putting on?

 

V1 - uses stock tensioner - idler is bigger than V2
V2 - uses smaller tensioner than stock - idler is smaller than V1

the tensioners and pulley are NOT interchangeable between the V1 and V2.

 

But I thought you said the V1 idler pulley was the same as the V2 tensioner pulley.

the V1 idler pulley is also a plastic pulley..but it's bigger than the one on the V2.

none of the pulleys are the same between the V1 and V2.

I am staying with the 3.125, I am doing a V2 Upgrade. The noise level from the V1 is killing me. I am also going to be doing an alternator rebuild, Variable Intake Manifold install, new plugs etc... just about everything I can do in the 2 weeks that I will be waiting on Vortech to send me my new blower.

 

Could compensate with the correct belt size, correct?

My V1 dosent have an "idler" pulley. It just uses the stock tensioner pulley. This is why the V1 plate is superior to the V2 plate.

 

nope...if the idler is too small the belt will rub on to the support bracket of the V1...not good.

there should be a black plastic pulley w/ a red center towards the front of the V1 SC plate...close to the frame on the pass side.

 

Don't you have an idler pulley on the end of the SC bracket? It's a pulley with rails.

 

Shave the bracket like us V2 owners have to do when we go with a small pulley.

This is the idler pulley or the tensioner pulley. One is OEM and allows you to adjustment via a screw while ther other one is a black plastic pulley with the red center. The plastic one is the one that I was inquiring about to see if they had an aluminum or steel replacement for my V1

 

that "can" be arranged..but the bigger plastic pulley is not as prone to melting like the smaller ones.

tensioner pulley - part where u can adjust tension on the belt
idler pulley - pulley that just pushes the belt to a different spot

on your V1 you're talking about the idler pulley that you're looking for.
