Recently purchased a used 2014 Nissan Maxima and was wondering if any suggestions - for or against - using fuel treatment, and if so, what brand? Can mid-grade fuel be used instead of premium fuel?

You can get many different opinions on these two subject matters as it has been discussed at length here.
Each car comes with its own owner's manual for guidance. Both subjects are covered in the negative to your questions, with reasons given.
My question is why would you want to do something that could diminish the reliability and performance of your car?
My best advice on this is to use only top tier gasoline, which has all the cleaners necessary, and at the correct octane level of 91.

I might add that I've been driving my 09 Maxima for 13 years now (can't believe it been that long) and always used premium gas from Standard/Texico and the engine is still running like brand new.

I ran a bottle of Royal Purple Octane boost in my max 2 weeks ago as I got bad gas from a remote shell station. $60 bucks of salad oil fuel. Ran great about 15-20 miles in. Can tell a difference after 2 tanks.
Annually Max gets BG44k treatment.

Carole123, I know some people may not agree with me, but I really don't care. My 2010 Maxima has not had a major repair aside from a new radiator and the CV joints and I'm at 193k miles and counting. I have a 69 Mercury Cougar that I put 110 octane VP Racing fuel in periodically, because I used to autocross when I lived in California.

For the most part I've tried to always put premium gas in my car, no lower than 89 octane and usually 91 to 93 when I do. When my Maxima hit 120k miles I started adding a gallon or two of the VP 110-octane fuel just to see if the engine would perform better.

After adding 2 gallons of the race fuel, I noticed that my Maxima idled smoother and my distance to empty increased by 20+ miles from 400 miles to about 420 to 430. I have a motorcycle as well and buy my fuel from the repair shop I have it serviced at; I pay $80 for a 5 gallon can. I use the VP fuel instead of buying gas treatment, but that's just what I do, no scientific testing behind it just me trying something different.
