Maxima 2007 noise on start up

Sort of a loud noise on start up goes away when the engine gets to temperature. Sorta like a whine. It’s not the alternator or the tensioner pulley. Seems to be getting worse over the last month. And help would be appreciated thanks.

When did you last change the CVT fluid?

as far as I know it’s never been changed. If it’s in neutral why would it make that noise if the fluid was the cause?

As you ruled out the other culprits (alternator/timing chain guides), I suspect that the CVT's external filter is restricting the fluid. There are parts moving in the CVT even while the car is in either park or neutral and they need to be lubricated, too. Once the temp gets high enough, then CVT oil thins out enough to get by the filter to provide lubrication and the whining stops. I've been there, so that is my thinking.

If the CVT has never been serviced, then that is a real possibility.
