Question Battery/Alternator issues 2010

My daughter has a 2010 Maxima with about 150k miles. For awhile, we had some trouble having to replace batteries pretty frequently. We then replaced alternator about a year ago. This week, her shield under the front of the car began to drag, so she decided to just remove it completely. It was raining pretty heavy that day and the following day. The car began to smoke from under the right side of the hood and some even came into the car from the vents. No knocking, engine sounded fine. After awhile of it running, the dash lights began to flicker and go out completely. Then would not go into reverse (bc it died). Now it wont crank. I know that's a lot of info. Just hoping someone might have some insight on what this could be. Maybe water splashed up on something electrical causing it to burn up/short out? TIA for any help!

It would appear your alternator is toast. How exactly it failed can only be determined by a tear down. Please let us know what you find.
