2022 Maxima - change CVT fluid at 44k?
Hello everyone, I'm new here and new to the Maxima world. I stumbled upon this page and omgoodness it is some amazing info in here. While reading some of the conversations in here I have a few questions but one in particular. I recently purchased a 2022 Maxima SV from a Nissan dealership been in love with this body style ever since the first one dropped but I've had it for about 2 weeks now still has the 30 day tags on it lol, and it's nothing going on that's making me regret my purchase as far as the driving aspect it's a great car the drive is amazing sounds good on the start-up and idle runs great breaks are great interior is amazing no unusual noises very quiet drive. It has a little over 44,000 miles on it and it used to be a rental car cosmetic wise though on the outside it is scratched up pretty bad front to back top to bottom on the exterior, but I didn't let that push me away from what's under the hood and how awesome it runs. After reading a lot of the post about the CVT transmission though I started to wonder at a little over 44,000 miles should I have the CVT transmission changed or flushed, or should I ride it out until it hits 60,000 miles. It's still under factory warranty 5yrs 60,000 miles. Thanks for your help and I appreciate the great posts!

From the mileage you have now to 50 or 60,000 miles or so, I don't think that bit of extra mileage will be a problem. I have a 17SL that is showroom condition inside and out and I am at 65,000 miles now. I'm just starting to think about the CVT fluid. I have a lift so I am going the DIY fluid change. My bro owns an ASE certified shop, also owning a Maxima with over 200,000 mi. And his take is that the internal fluid filter and screen is overkill. He says just a flush will do it. If you take your car to a Nissan dealer they do have an instrument that will be able to tell you the state of your CVT fluid, but in all honesty they probably will advise you to get the flush and the whole nine yards. You and I can both have a nightmare and have our CVTs grenade tomorrow morning, but I think any damage causing that would have been caused by the way we drive that affects the state of the fluid. I know how I've driven this car, and I would say that it is normal with 50/50 around town/interstate driving. The thing you don't know is whether your engine was taken care of or whether it was thrashed my rental folks. Good luck with your new baby. My final suggestion would be for you to do your fluid change sooner than later, although $65,000 mi. Is not going to cause any more significant appreciable where on the moving parts of your trans.

Yes, change it...the only thing you should flush is your toilet.
-I just did mine 2 weeks ago (the fluid, not the toilet)..
-I've been doing it every 60K miles, I have 160K on the car/didn't wait as long this time since it's getting older (purchased new, 2016 SV).
-Never had the filter (in a side housing) and strainer (up in the pan) changed until now/dealer wouldn't do it all this time; I did it (they finally "caved in" since I read someone else at my dealership had it done) and it not only "flies" now, but I get 4mpg more on highway runs.
I'm a mechanical engineer and always wanted the filters changed, but couldn't force anyone to do it. They swore it didn't need it (not listed in the Nissan maintenace schedule)...but it does...maybe not every time, but it does.
