Whining noise Steering fluid reservoir area

Hey y'all,

I’m sure this question has been brought up many times, but I can’t seem to find any information. For some reason, it is not letting me upload the video.

I have a 2018 SL 95,000 miles. I just noticed this whining yesterday. The fluid is topped off. I stopped by a repair shop. The mechanic told me it was normal but my instincts are telling me otherwise. I can hear it really well if I put my ear to the reservoir cap.

Hoping someone can share their experiences if any!

Thanks in advance

Yup same issue here 2018 with 90K. It is the pump and dealer said it's very common. Pump still functions normally so I was told have a nice day. It's 2 or 3 grand to replace with an OEM pump. So get used to it have a nice day. LOL

well then I guess that’s what I’ll do! Does yours get louder when you turn the wheel once the car is parked but in neutral?

It does not get louder in that situation however it gets quieter when I step on the brake pedal. Very annoying but every car has its quirks.

Years ago, I recall a TB about the noise. The fix was installing an adhesive rubber "washer" on the end of the pump to dampen the noise.
