It's called candy-apple red I believe ... something like that.

And people say two to three coats should be enough.

The best thing is to take it apart and paint the inside though.

they sell VANS red tail paint($30 acan), perfect match to inner tails. Look at my sig for proof. They were done about 3yrs ago and look as good as the day i bought them. David L is the king of making 95/96 tails.
BTW they are painted from the inside. Lots of guys here who have them sprayed from the outside experiance nasty fading and scratches.
So its up to you, inside or outside

I did the outsides about 2 weeks ago...so I guess time hasn't had a chance to work against me yet. I bought "testors transparent candy apple red" and it looks fine. I put about 6 coats of that a 5 coats of clear coat. So far, so good.( knock on wood)

Be sure to use as many coats of clearcoat as you do paint. It will help to protect the paint and slow the fading process.

It will work but too much will warp the plastic. Be careful.

I didn't have any problems painting the outsides of mine. Just be patient. Use thin coats and give them a lot of time to dry in between.

I used Testor's brand Hobby paint and it's held up pretty good but I attribute that to the clear coat on top of it.

I don't see why it wouldn't have. I used gasoline (only thing at I had at the time) to remove a little bit of overspray. It's just like the paint thinner and can easily warp the lens. I would think that a little more elbow grease is all you'll need.

Sorry to hear that. If paint thinner won't remove the paint then I'm not sure what to tell you. You could try to sand it off with a very very fine grit. You'd just have to be careful once you started to get close to the lens. I would probably sand it down close enough and then use paint thinner to get the rest off.
