What 18" tires have the best ride?

I am shopping for new tires. I don't care about the "best" performance. I don't want to pay too much. What I do want is a reasonably good tire as far as wet and dry traction are concerned that still rides good. Some 18" tires tend to have too stiff of a sidewall.

I was thinking about some all season performance tires. (Yokohama AVS dB or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S or Falken Azenis ST115)
Maybe some Continental Tires. (Benz OEM)

What do you guys think.

Help.

I have Yoko AVS db's on my 17x8. They're very good all season tires. They handle snow, as long as it's less than 2" of dry powder I've got 16.5K miles out of my tires and still have about 5K miles left on them. I highly recommend them.

Continentals are probably your best riding tire. Softer and quieter then most. Thats why lots of OEM's use them.

holy **** 18" tires wear fast!
I'd love some 18s but it looks like I'm going to be spending another 500$ on tires every year.

If I had 18s, I wouldnt give up the stiff sidewall for ride..
1)Stiff sidewall=better handling
2)Stiff sidewall=less chance of denting your rims.. (I think)
just my opinion

Well you don't have 18" wheels and modified suspension :P Chris personally I like my Nitto's, but I haven't put my AGXs/B+Gs on yet either. I have 235/40/18 and it's worked out great so far. The only complaint I have about my 18"s is they are a lot less stable in the rain due to the wider contact patch. And they're expensive! When you mentioned Pilot Sports thats lots of $$$, but great tires. If you want budget tires Kumhos or Nittos are about as low as you get. My last set cost me 741.50.

Another question.....

The 2000 SE maxes come with 17" wheels with 225/50/17 size tires.
But everyone syas that we should ride with 225-235/45/17 size tires.
Apparently, Nissan did this to help out with the ride quality.

This being said, shouldn't people with 18's be able to ride on 225-235/45/18. I know my speedo will be off by 1 mile over, but to save my ride and my wheels, don't you think its worth it?

I mean how many of you guys have wanted just a little better ride out of your 18's.

Even the new Q45 rides on 45 series tires on its 18" wheels.

Opinions. Help.

Isn't this question kind of like: "I need an elephant gun. Can you recommend one that doesn't kick very hard?"

If you are committing to 18's, then you are also committing to a ride that is at least somewhat more harsh than stock, no matter what brand of tire you ultimately select. Good luck with that...

great point. if ultimately, the ride is very important to you, don't go with 18's. even the best tire is going to be pretty rough compared to say 16 or even 17" wheels.

Chris yes you can run on a 45 series tire, but most people who have 18"s want a low profile tire. It's all up to what you want the most. If you want a good ride don't consider really low profile tires. At least you have a mild suspension setup instead of Eibachs
