Raced an X5 Bimmer...

Hi guys, I was on my way back home after shopping, so I'm on the red light and see in my rear mirror what's looka like to be some Bimmer truck, coming fast, the guy pulls to my left side and was like a couple of feet upfront, so there was no doubt in my mind that he wanted to smoke me... anyway we did 2 races, first race, light turn green, I immediately took a little than 1/2 car lenght on him, perfect launch no tire chirp, until the next light he couldn't pass me but he was hanging at around 1 car lenght then we had to shot off cuz of next red light. I looked at the guys and show tumb up, he kinda look like on the adrenaline rush partially smilling, so next light, again him being a few feet upfront, light turn green and I let the Bimmer take the leads to see if I can catch-up on him and perhaps eventually pass him, to my surprise I was able to catch up and arrive at the other light dead even with him. All in all it was a funny race, anywone ever raced one ? how did you against it ? Should I consider this a good race ?

Cheers

It was the 4.4L, it was a Black model with the 4 exhaust pipes, are they well rated ?

i was just watching motorweek and the new x5 4.6s [i think it was called] does 0-60 in like 6.7 and 1/4 in 14.7 so id pretty much get smoked by an x5...but that is the new 4.6s, so the 4.4 should be a little slower im guessn

I raced a 4.4 from a roll a few months ago. It was my first race with my 02 . At 40 MPH he floored it and I downshifted to 2nd gear and hauled a$$ right on by him! I walked him. They have AWD though so watch out from them on a stand still, they will leap ahead.

I'm auto, I would say max 120km/hr, I have the feeling I would have pull stronger from him on a highway, there was just not enough room, my car was strong all the way, so I'm quite happy with my new mods for now, but I want more power, so next important mods is going to be VB recal.

Cheers

x5

I only have driven an x5 once but my paps ml430 is similar. There is no way that thing could stay with a max on the highway. It gets decent launches at full throtle (all wheel drive) but no high end power. Good Kill!!

Re: x5

That baby is a monster, can easily do 6.1 from 0-60 according to magazines. (i'm talking about the newer X5). Then again, these magazine drivers are notorious for not having very accurate data so chances are it's lower than that.

Hey soundmike, the one I raced was the 4.4L, and right from the start it pulled hard, dont forget the 4.4l has 282 HP and 324lb-of torque, I'm pretty shure a manual would have smoked him faster but still for a truck of that size and weight these are good numbers.

Cheers
