I WANT a Body Kit, but I have a problem!!!

Well time has come to where my mods list is growing shorter and shorter and the only things left are front grille and valance by street grills and a body kit.

Problem I have with the body kit is a major one. I dont know how the hell any of the rear pieces are going to fit with my monster sized muffler tips. It is not going to clear. Even owners of the GREDDY had to dremel off the top of their stillen rear to get it to clear. My issue is also the width, if i shave off too much, then the side "walls" near the muffler cut out will no longer be there and then look very tacky.

Need ideas or workarounds for me to buy a body kit.

Have the rear section re-shaped at the body shop to fit your exhaust tips and have it painted....

Why don't you trim a portion on the kit so the pipes can stick out nice?

try this:

get swaybars and screw the body kit. unless you're into show cars, get something performance based.

and those exhaust tips need to be cut off.

Biggy

keep me posted on your kit ideas. I too am interested in a body kit, possibly the Stillen or the AE. Maybe we can find a shop to do both installs, yours first.

You're going to shave off a lot if you decide to get a kit.

I already got a rear sway bar, i am done performance wise.

Kevin, you had to shave off the top portion of your muffler part on the rear section to make the greddy fit correct?

Right now my clearance is only like 1/4"-3/8" from the muffler tips to the bottom portion of the muffler.

And for those of you who want me to cut off the muffler tips, blow me, this was a straight up question, and i dont say crap like that on other peoples cars. Seems like this .org has gone to crap.

It will look nice when whatever shop you find installs the kit.

Hey BigDogJonx, I'm in the same situation has we have the same muffler set-up, I think I am going to buy an HKS Mufflers, still 400$ US it's a lot a money for a damn muffler but look good though and should fit very well with a body kit. Also since I have that huge muffler, no body want to race no more, I think some are intimidate by the tips size and perhaps think we have some Boost.

Cheers

Yup, had to shave some of the top portion of the kit so the GReddy wouldn't melt it.

How much clearance you got from the muffler to the kit now after you shaved it? Some of the pictures seem to show tops maybe 1/8".

Yup, it's very close. I would say about 1/8" also.

Damn, that is only one 4" tip. Imagine trying to get two in there? That is gonna require some exensive body work on the rear piece.

Question Kev, now how much clearance did you have Before you installed the kit? I know you did not install the Greddy until afterwards, but still wondering if you got an idea. Cause like I said earlier, right now, my muffler clears only 1/4" from the bottom of the bumper where the stock muffler cut out is.

Just trying to figure out if I am going to need to not only have the opening wider, but also get the top portion of the muffler cutout on the rear piece also modified.

Yeah, looks like you'll have to chop off a lot. You definitely have to lose the bottom left part of the kit. For the right section, looks like you'll have to lose about 2.25" - 2.50"

It had to clearance at all because the bumper was up against the kit. I had rocks in the rubber-hanging-bracket-thingies to lower the muffler, but my stupid self took them out a day later. Part of the kit melted onto the tip, so shaving the kit was the only way (for this car at least).

Is it me or does half the stuff you wrote make no sense? Hitting the crack this early in the morning there buddy?

What do you mean im going to have to definetly lose the bottom left part of the kit? I aint got a muffler on that side. Just on the right side I want to do the Stillen Touring lip like Irvine78 has, and then the rest of the stillen regular sides and rear, like you have.

Sorry, I was flipping back and forth between work/.orgy and I guess the train of thought, along with grammar, went down the toilet.

On the rear valence, look at the left section next to the tip. You'll have to loose the area that's shaped like a backwards "L."

Make sense now?

Makes sense now. But if I cut into the left section of the tip, Im going to get so close or even into that "slit" that I see on your rear kit. Then the body shop will have to make a new wall to make it look right.

Which kit do you like better

the Stillen Aero or the AE? Biggie, does someone locally here have a Stillen kit? I wish I could see the kit in person.

Kev, did a shop install your Stillen Kit? how much did they charge? and what are your impression of the kit, and compared to an AE kit. Thanks in advance.

waddup dog.......I've got a similar problem....I have the HKS installed already and I bought the stillen aero kit's rear and side skirts with the front touring lip spoiler. I even have the same colored car.

Anyways....i went in for a test fitting (kits not installed yet)and you won't have a problem above the exhaust but the sides will definitely cause a problem. You are definitely going to have to
cut away a few inches on both sides considering you have those HUGE tips. With the HKS exhaust on the other hand I'll end up having to cut maybe a quarter of aninch on both sides..

but one question.....will the exhaust definitely burn the kit?
cuz I'm always touching my exhaust tips after driving around and it never seems to be hot......i can hold the exhaust tip in my hands comfortbaly without feeling any pain....

Yes, a shop did painted and installed the kit. Paint and installation should cost about $400, but I've seen quotes that are lower than that.

AE kit is more subtle and less aggressive. The front lip for the AE looks like a mini-Stillen lip (not as low and bubbly).

Sideskirts for the AE gives the car a lowered stance (without being lowered). The Stillen skirts are nice a big, which flows nicely with the front lip. There are subtle lines on the kit that you won't notice in pictures, but do notice in person.

AE rear is nice, but I don't like how you can see the separation between the pieces. It completes the subtle look of the whole kit. Stillen's rear valence is big and bubbly. At different angles, it makes the car look fuller/beefier. It covers the spare tire so you can't see the bulge (unlike the AE kit). The only bad thing about the Stillen kit is that you might have to modify the area where the muffler tip resides.

I hope this is what you're looking for.

Thx Kev

the info you gave was perfect. I can't decide which kit to get, I wish someone in the Northern VA, MD, DC area had the Stillen kit so I could check it out. From yours and Stillens pics I do like it. I'm just not sure if I like it better than the AE kit, granted I have seen the AE kit numerous times in person. BTW, are you still happy with your kit? how high would you rate it compared to your other mods? all included.

Thanks again.

Side note: The Stillen kit for the new Alti is pretty bad@ss looking.

Yes, I'm quite happy with the kit. From a 1 to 10 scale, it would be about an 8 for looks. Compared to other mods, it would be a 5.
