$1700 quote from dealer - yes or no?

I have a 95 gxe, and i took it tot he dealer today cause it was leaking antifreeze (i kno the dealer is expensive, but the mechanic i went to first said that the job was too hard) - while they were at it - they said that a tie bar was screwed up and the front two struts are beginning to wear out - .........water pump + tie bar + 2 front struts = $1700

wut u guys think ??? - the water pump is going to be done by the dealer no matter wat (681 bucks) - but wut bout the other stuff?

Damn the dealership will always find something else wrong with your car other than what you brought it in for them to look at. I once went with my buddy to have his altima worked on and they told him that a ton of things were wrong and needed to be fixed immediately, when all my buddy wanted to get the bolt replaced on his tire that broke off. (the bolt that holds the lug nut on) They quoted him over $800 so we took it somewhere else and they looked it over and found absolutely nothing wrong that needed immediate attention. He had it fixed for $85. Sorry dealerships just **** me off sometimes. Take Care

take it to another shop that you trust. I would also get the water pump done somewhere else. A water pump replacement isn't rocket science.

BTW, what is the mileage on your car?

ok but I would still go somewhere else for a 2nd opinion for the suspension. Heck, you could get the part fixed and get the car lowered for that price! Does the car seem to bounce? Jack the car up and take off the front wheels. Do the struts seem to be leaking? Also, what is your mileage?

mileage = 53K ........nah - the car doesnt seem to bounce, but the turning seems to be a bit wide for some reason - yeah - 700 for the pump and then with the other 1000 i can get a 2 inch drop!

700 for the pump(Same price I paid a year ago), 500 to lower(shocks and springs), and that leaves enough left over for a big fat bottle of NOS! Just an idea...

KYB AGX - $350-370
Springs - $150-200
Misc. parts - $50
Installation - $175-250*
Alignment - $59 (edit, courtesy: MaximaGTR34

Total - $929 (on the absolute high-side)

*If you don't turn your own wrenches. If you do, subtract $200.

I agree - you should get a second opinion from a reputable shop. I'd also look for a little more of an explanation than "the tie bar is screwed up." How is it screwed up? What's the problem? Btw, your tie-bar/FSTB CANNOT adversely affect the way your struts wear, so if they tried to sell you on that angle, it's a load of B.S., trust me.

Good luck!

I don't think you pay a dealership to do your suspension. Seems like a waste.
