Throttle Body Cables, Should they have any "Play"

When doing a routine checkup on my car (making sure all hoses, clamps, ect were secure) I noticed some slack on the throttlebody cables...I was wondering if this is normal, or if I should tighten it up, I never took notice of it when I first removed my TB to clean it out....and cant remember what it looked like after that...thanks!

There should be some yes. If it is too tight it will stretch the cable over time then cause more headaches when you try to replace it. You want it to be snug but with a little slack to spare.

If you have a Haynes or other manual it tells you how to properly adjust the cables. If you don't here's my attempt to explain; loosen the locking nut from both cables. With the cable unlocked now back out the actuall gas pedal cable; more slack should get into that cable, once the slack is there begin to tighten it until the throttle drum just begins to move. I tighten mine there - the manuals say to back the adjusting screw back like a 1/2 turn. Mine has been fine. To make sure I don't stretch or break the cable I had my girlfriend floor the pedal while I made sure it didn't go too far. It open the butterfly all the way up and no more. ONce the cable is adjusted lock it into place w/ the locking nut. For the ASCD just tighten the cable until it turns the throttle drum and then I backed that one off a little. I really just want the gas pedal to be super responsive, the cruise control can have a little lag in it. I don't care. Hope this helpful.
