engine cough when flooring from a complete stop

ive dont do this often, but i let my friend testdrive my car (his accord is mod'd out and he wanted to see how it drives) and when he got in he floored it from a stop and i heard my engine give a slight cough. i'd never heard it before, as im always in the car and the sound was very slight. but since i was outside standing next to the car when he took off i heard it. anyone have any insight on this?

It might just have been an anomaly. Have your friend floor it from a dead stop a few more times and see if the "cough" goes away.

Mine's done the EXACT SAME THING!!! I have the 01 AE automatic. Mine seemed to do it almost consistently with a K&N drop-in air filter, and every once and a while with the AMSOIL 2-stage foam air filter. Since I installed the JWT Pop Charger last week, I think it's done it maybe once that I can remember. Kinda weird, very annoying, and has actually almost got me in a couple of serious crashes a couple of times. It would be nice if Nissan would make a TSB for that!!

Mine's doing it really bad now. I'm trying to get in for the coil TSB.
Hmmm...I think I'm still waiting for someone to fax it to me!

I'm encouraged to hear that Nissan finally issued a TSB for the coil problem in early-production 2K Maximas. Does anyone have the TSB number?

As you may know, the problem was eventually corrected and should not affect later-production 2K Maximas or any 2K1/2K2 Maximas.

I also had my coils replaced at Nissan's expense, but I didn't experience a "cough" when I had leaky coils . . . just a loss of power and a lot of detonation.

could you elaborate on what we do with with these TSBs? if there is a TSB issued that means that nissan will take care of it free? do i just take my car in and tell them the problem and give them the TSB number?

If a TSB actually exists, it's better to take a copy of it to the dealer with you. Sometimes the dealer has "trouble" finding the TSBs on their own.
