2002 Cold Start Rattle

Everytime I start the car, when I turn it to ON (not START), something electrical is coming on and I hear a buzzzzzzzzzzzz.

When I start the car (only sometimes) I get a slite rattle. Today was the worst I have heard it, it sounded like something on the engine was shaking loose. I turned the car off and restarted but there was no sound, which leads me to beleive it is oil related.

I went on a few errands around town and everytime I restarted I did not get the sound. Has anyone else encountered this?

Based on your description on the second paragraph i'd say it's the Timing chain. It's normal. Nothing to worry about. Usually happens while the engine is still cold.

The buzz is most likely the fuel pump buiding up pressure into the fuel system. If you leave the key in ON position long enough, the buzz should stop once the fuel pump has done its job.

And the rattle, the "silent" timing chain in the 3.5L VQ35DE, as soundmike suggested.

Good. It's usually not as noticable as it was this morning. Thanks!
