There is only one company that I know of that actually has a real kit that keeps beam patterns in mind when designing the kits, but they don't make it for 9004, due to its poor beam pattern (which is why nobody can see out of them!).
Whatever you do, make sure you go to a trusted company/person when buying your "kit" as each Philips or whatever "kit" is custom made by the seller. If you decide to get the popular Maxima kit of the month (they seem to change all the time!), contact Freddie, aka 97GLES. He's known and knows his stuff.
But don't forget: NO aftermarket HID system is legal ANYWHERE in North America, and *can* and will get you fined eventually, or worse, due to the extreme brightness and beam pattern, can blind people, cause a collision, and you would most likely be liable for ALL damages.
If you can wait for a week or so, I am arranging with a wholesaler to get the new X1010 system for a GD, which is housed in its own lens, provides the proper beam pattern, and is street legal as it is considered auxiliary lighting, not a replacement, and you still keep your high-beam function. The Xenarc can be used by itself without the regular headlights, as it is designed to be low-beams, however, most people keep their regular lights on to prevent trouble with the law. You can find information on the product at:
http://www.sylvania.com/xenarc/prodinfo.htm
Excellent information on the topic of HID for non-HID equipped vehicles can be found here:

If you're still stuck for a clear answer, you can post your questions and concerns with those in the trade and experience outside Maximas here:

Hope this helps!
Oh, and if you have any questions on the Xenarc, or any other issues, feel free to contact me.

Hanabis are the best for the bang, I got the purple kit, can you say very bright and the stares you will get from people trying to catch up to you admiring the purple/white bright tint thats coming from the headlamps. I recommend you go thru 97GLES, hes a very nice responsible person that will help you out and this kit is a kit not a half azzz kit, it comes with everything you need, plug it and turn on the lights and go drive at night.
