Bought a used 96 SE a few months ago...anything I should do to it? (maintenence wise)
Bought a used 96 SE a few months ago...anything I should do to it? (maintenence wise)
The car had about 85K on it when I bought it used in January. I'm not asking what the 80K tuneup is. I don't know what kind of care was given to it by the previous owner (other than that it had lots of options and was in very good condition inside). I'm planning on replacing the tranny oil with some redline, but I didn't know if there was other stuff I should check/replace, like the fuel filter and what not?
Also, is there a way to tell if the tranny is original without taking it apart?
thanks,

Check to see if you're wheels come off. I've heard of some guy's wheel bolts rusting up on the stud - ended up breaking the stud to get the wheel off. Aside from that, I'd say do a full 90k maintenence, plus a brake check - pads, rotors, maybe flush the braking system. oh yea - clean the throttle body, too.
that's just my opinion....

Ask if the major 60k service was done. If not do it ASAP. Also, dont take it to a dealer. Buy the Haynes Manual and do it yourself. None of it is hard or expensive, and it will help you bond with your new car.
I guess that is a general tip, try to do as much of your own work as possible.
