Whine noise on 2k2 SE 6 speed

I have a 2002 Maxima SE w/ the 6 speed. When I have the clutch disengaged and I apply light pressure to the throttle I get a high pitched whining noise. It goes away or is at least much less noticable when the throttle is pushed in further. It happens most noticably when the windows are up and I'm in 3rd gear or higher.
It happens when I am pushing on the throttle enough to maintain speed. If I let off the gas or push the clutch in, no noise.

This isn't normal, is it? It's loud enough to drown out the stereo at some times. Sounds almost like a dentist's drill.

Does anyone know what this might be?

I'm going to bring it to the dealer, but I wanted to have an idea what was up before I went there...

I haven't heard anything like what you're describing in my 6spd. I think you definitely have a problem. I'm wondering if you have an intake air leak? Maybe you got the limited edition SE with the factory installed Vortech S/C (lol!!)

Whatever it is, keep us posted.

I don't think it could be an intake air leak, just considering it doesnt' do it when i'm stopped. if I sit and rev the engine while i'm in neutral I get no noise at all. It only happens w/ the car moving & light pressure on the throttle.

definately an odd noise...

It may be that it only occurs under load. When you install an intake (ie - FrankenCar) it hardly makes any noise at all when just revving the engine. Take it out onto the road and it's a different story. With load on the engine, it's way louder than it is without.

Just a suggestion.

Interesting...I actually hope that's all it is, like a loose connection on the intake...I'd prefer to just have that fixed then have the dealer have to do any kind of serious work on the car

New Clutch

There have been a couple of threads on this in the 5th generation forum, mine most recently. Please see "2002 Clutch being Replaced". I'm afraid it sounds like you might be in the same situation as me, but the good news is that Nissan is taking care of the problem. Good luck!

Yeah, I guess it is a bearing, they said that Nissan demanded they put a brand new tranny in, and not try to repair it or anything, so as soon as a new one comes in it's getting fixed. Guy said he had no clue how long it would take, though. He said could be 2 days, or could be 2 weeks.

Until then I have the car back, though.
