whaz your opinion on these? i have 225/40/18 and these rims get bent soooooooo easy.... what do u guys think about 225/50/17 and 235/45/17. I am thinking about getting the 235/45/17 but i dont know if they'll bent as easy as the 18 " or i should just get the stock size so i don't have to worry about benting them... thanx

 

I would only go with the stock size if you happen to like the Potenzas, don't have a problem spending $200+ a tire for Michelins, or are okay with putting a wider tire on the narrow stock rims. I'm still on the stock size, so maybe someone who isn't has some better advice

 

It depends more on rim width. If you have 7" wide rims then stick with 225/50-17. If you have 7.5" or 8" rims then go ahead with 235/45-17 or even 245/45-17 since there's a lot more choices and can be found cheap. The overall diameters are reasonably close for both sizes so you shouldn't have a problem with rim damage with either.

 

I was DISGUSTED but the RE92s that come stock on the 01's, mediocre dry traction and ZERO wet; so as soon as I roasted those (I drive rather fast and aggressive) I did a LOT of research, and talked to the guys at Tirerack. The did a check and recommended 235/45/17 for my car and matched a tire which was the Potenza RE730s $149 a piece. They are Z rated (I have used THAT capacity) These tires are AMAZING for traction when warmed up, I live in Georgia and would not recommend them for people in colder climates, they are similar to race tires , they NEED to be hot before pushing them. Do a check on Tirerack.com , they have well over 400 reviews on these tires. They have decent wear (300 treadwear rating, temp A and traction AA) and they look sweet and have amazing wet traction.

Before you install 235/45R17 tires on your OEM SE rims, read the post on Page 3 of the FAQs entitled "Can I run oversized tires on my stock 17" SE Rims?": Here's a link to Page 3 of the FAQs:

If you were having problems with you 225/40/18 setup maybe the rim you have is not strong enough or the sidewall profile is too low for the roads you drive through. Maybe you should go with 235/40/18 or with what I went with- 245/40/18 (SSR GT1 rims) 18x8. The 245/40 will give you the same overall diameter as the OEM 17x7 setup.... Good luck!

 

More important, the load rating for the 225/40R18 is probably WAY TOO LOW for a Maxima.

Purchasing tires other than the tires that originally came on your vehicle requires a substantial amount of knowledge. Unfortunately, most people do not possess the necessary knowledge to make a safe and intelligent decision. And incredibly, some people who do have the knowledge provide unsafe advice.

DON'T TRUST ANYBODY OTHER THAN THE TIRE MANUFACTURER. AND EDUCATE YOURSELF BEFORE YOU PURCHASE TIRES OTHER THAN THE TIRES THAN CAME ON YOUR CAR!!!

 

You could always get Nitto 450s in 225/50-17
