auto tranny question

I thought I'd post this since I only saw one slightly related post in hours of searching. I am on the whole happy with the auto trans (although my last car was an 88 Corolla ), but I'm wondering why second takes so long to change up to third? I'm cruising at like 50, no gunning at all and instead of just changing up it revs away in second at 4000rpm. I'm like "I'm driving a Maxima and it sounds like I'm redlining a motorcycle". No problems with 1-2 or 3-4. Any ideas?
Thanks guys

You serious man!? So it's one of those "welcome to the world of the max auto tranny" days for me I guess? Well, I won't be the first or last. Thanks for the reply.

I dont ceuise at 4000rpm in second. but, the 2-3 shift is slow as hell. This is just as annoying as the jerky 1-2 shift.

Well, you can fix that by getting a 5-speed, or doing a conversion.....like me....

Oh crap.. Got a CEL this morning, 1108 "Shift Solenoid A". That would seem to correlate with me not even making third on the way to work this morning! (thank God it's only a 5 min drive) Still, that's not too bad is it? I heard that solenoids aren't killer expensive and not hard to replace. Anyone done this before?
Thanks again

Solenoids are easy to replace. Just make sure you find out and replace the correct one. You will also need a new pan gasket and plenty of fluid to fill back. You may want to either replace or clean your filter while you are in there. Now that I think about it, you will have to drop the whole VB to change the solenoid, so be sure and go on Mobiltek's website and print out their instructions. When you drop the VB, make sure to inspect the 4 flat O-ring seals between the VB and the tranny case. Believe me when I tell you that those measly rings will cause you hours of headaches if they are torn or broken loose. Trust me.
