Raced a 2K2 Maxima GLE

This happened last night at around 11:30pm. I saw a beige 2K2 Maxima down a local street that's known for racing. I was stuck at a red light when I saw it turn on, I tried to catch up but they were out of sight. About 15 minutes later my cousin (that was riding with me) noticed the 2K2 Maxima right in front of me (I don't know how I didn't see it). I pulled up even with it to check out who was driving, and to my luck it was what looked like a 17 year old kid, with two friends. I stayed even with them until we hit a light, (which happened rather quickly). At the light I was checking out the rims to confirm it was a GLE when the light turned green, he got a small jump on me (damn my reaction is usually unmatched) and pulled 1/2 a car length in first, we raced all the way up to ~140KM/H where he pulled no more than the initial 1/2 a car he had from the launch. I talked to them after, and they seemed like nice kids. For those who don't know, I have a 1995 Maxima GXE Auto, and the ONLY performance mod I have installed right now is a PR CAI (hybrid style), I guess it's time I got off my lazy butt and install the mods that have been sitting in basement for the past few months.

I was surprised too. I was with supermachoman last night when it happened. The only thing that I can think of is that those kids in the 2k2 max were fairly chubby kids which may have weighed the car down a bit, but I was impressed at how we kept up.

supermachoman: When I get my license back and you get your mods installed, we'll go at it.

Since the Maxima weighs light for a 4 door sedan, the weight change of extra people will change the peformance of the car more dramatically than in other heavier cars.

yup, our 4800 lb. Lightning doesn't give a crap if someone's in his passenger seat, kinda like a flea on a fat guy, the fat slows him down, not the flea

Yeah I've noticed my Maxima's acceleration is really affected by weight. Never the less, I was impressed at how well I kept up.
