I believe the 4-piston calipers for the 300Z brake upgrade that some Max owners do only come on the twin-turbo models, whose wheels are fairly wide (9"? rear, ?"front) and would cause some major rubbing, especially in the back......

Hopefully someone will get off their duff and type a 'complete and accurate' post about why TT wheels can't be used on the Max.

 

the non turbo Z32 uses 4 piston calipers up front, too.

16x7.5" front w/ positive 45mm offset, 66.1 mm centerbore, 5 x 114.3mm lug pattern

the TT uses 16x8.5" rear, +35 mm offset

 

So how much does the non TT rim weigh? (90 and on models)
is it really 16lb?
or is that number wrong?

16x8.5 - 19 lbs

 

The 16x7" (front rims from the TT, or the rims all around on the NA) should work.

The last gen 240SX came with 300zxTT calipers in Japan. SO their rims should clear the calipers

 

I read in another post that there was a 300ZX caliper install on a Sentra using 15in rims.

What's the spec on offset and width to clear them?
I'd guess that spoke design would have something to do with it as well.

So far I've been looking at 16" rims, including the 300zx rims, Kosei K1s and even 16x8 RX-7 wheels and Mustang Cobra knockoffs.

I'd love to look into 15" rims to look a little more sleeper and even save on some tire $$

 

yes 300ZX rims do work. i have the 16x7 all around on my car. fit fine.

 

15"s will work. Keep in mind that the diameter of the rotors is less than the factory maxima brakes. They are cut down 3mm in radius, 6mm in diameter. My 17"s clear the brakes with a ton of room to spare, the only part you need to worry about is the width. That's what makes some wheels not fit, it's not the size of the wheel, it's more the offset, width and spoke design.

 

Do you know what 15" rims were on the Sentra? I'm plan on the 300Z brakes and I want to able to buy rims for my 15" snow tires. The OEM steel rim probably won't clear the breaks.

 

I ran 15" American Racing wheels w/ BFG drag radials and they fit over the rear wheels. I didn't try fitting them on the front, though.

A buddy of mine runs 15" Volk TE37s in the back when racing. All this wheel stuff and offsets gives me a headache! lol

 

The reply that I got to the same question was Volk TE37s. The Sentra was mentioned in the thread called "Volk TE37s" or something similar. I couldn't find the article in SCC, but I think that I have the issue with the project car statuses, so it may be in there.

 

I thought that the 300zx rotor diameter was the same as the Maxima rotor diameter, and the reason Max owners had to shave them was because the calipers sat lower once put on the maxima.

You'll need at least a 15" diameter wheel with around +45 mm offset if it's a 7.5" width.

 

That's what I meant, after shaving, the diameter is smaller.

Also, I don't think that a +45 offset would work, at least on a Maxima. Right now my wheels are +35 and they barely clear. I just tried to buy a set of 18" wheels in a +42 offset and when the shop called Dazz, they were told that it wouldn't work.

There are people using the stock N/A 300ZX rims over the 300ZX calipers, and they're 45mm 7.5". So I guess spoke design playes a much larger part than I thought.
Also, on a larger wheel (like 18") with a 45mm offset, if the spoke design flairs away gradually from the bolts, it actually may have a _greater_ chance of hitting the calipers. I've been looking at Kosei K1 Racing as a "model" design. There are also ADR and Power Racing rims that have spokes that are immediately "vertical" and probably have the best chance of clearing.
The 300zx rims are also pretty darned light (16-17lbs). I think that I'm going to go with a used set.
