"WAI Blows Too Much Air & May Cause a Gasket to Blow"??
I had some problems starting my car recently, and i just had the 60,000 mile service tune-up. I took it to the dealership, cause they reset the timing at my tune-up, and my dad thinks that is what was causnig my car not to start sometimes. Well, the dealer gave 3 reasons:
1.) they reset the timing to the wrong thing
2.) I was flooding the car
3.) my k&n intake blows to much air into the oil, something like that, and that can cause an oil gasket to blow........i think that is total bullsh*t. Has anyone ever experienced their intake causing a gasket to blow? The guy at the dealer said that he has had 5 problems like that in the past month.....he also said it was like a $700 job too.

That's soooo absolutely not true. If he had had 5 of those in a month, then this board would have seen 500 of those this year already.....at LEAST 1000 subscribers on this forum have Pop Chargers....
I also have replaced that gasket before....it's about a $100 job, NOT $700.
Go to another mechanic...QUICK!!!
He's trying to rip you a new one....

Also, they did not reset your timing. There is no way to adjust the timing on our cars, it is programmed into the ECU.
Please buy a Haynes manual and do your own work from now on. That way you won't get sacmmed and lied to.

Tell me I'm correct when I say an intake doesn't blow air in to the engine. The air is 'sucked' in to the cylinder chamber.
The fact that you've got an intake means you've got less restriction than the stock airbox but that just helps your engine to breather easier.
Unless you have a s/c of course

Does anybody have any idea why my car has trouble starting? It turns over, but it just won't start. It seems like it's flooded, but i don't put my foot on te gas before i start it. Any suggestions or help???

They actually have service advisors working that have no clue of how the cars they service actually function.
Reset timing?
You'd think Nissan would train this guy before allowing him to speak to customers.Flodding the car? OK it's remotely possible with a FI car, but come on lets get real here.
And the best, the K&N intake is BLOWING to much air into the engine? HELLO!!!!!! Somebody point this service guy to www.howthingswork.com

I am sorry, i misheard the dealer....well actually he talked to my father, and that's what my dad said he said. But, i talked to the dealer today, and he said that the popcharger sucks too much air and oil in and could have cause me to blow an Air Flow Meter sensor. Does that sounds more realistic????

But there still:
Is no timing adjustment. Not for many years now on just about any car.
Flooding? Next thing he'll tell you he needs to rejet your carbs and adjust the float levels.
Find another mechanic.
Is your check engine light on? Was it on? Have AutoZone try to pull some codes.
I'd replace the coolant temperature sensor for kicks. The same symptoms happened to me and threw no codes. The sensor wasn't dead enough to self-diagnose as dead....

Remove the MAF sensor. Take a flashlight and look at the sensor. It is a thin wire running in between two larger wires. Similiar to a filament on a light bulb. If the sensor filament wire is dirty carefully clean it. If you break that wire then you have to buy a new MAF sensor and they are expensive.
If your MAF is dirty, buy some electrical parts cleaner from Radio Shack or other electrical store. Take the MAF off, and just blast it with the parts cleaner. I did that to mine just for the heck of it. My car was running fine before I cleaned it, I just did it b/c the MAF has been running like that for over 80,000 miles.

Um..
What about the non-starting problem...
Turning over but not starting doesn't seem like a starter problem. Seems more like a fuel delivery or spark problem. Will a dirty fuel filter limit flow to the point that the engine won't start (from starvation)? What about a dying fuel pump not delivering enough pressure?
And the muffler-bearing thing was just plain mean

TOM
