ran a 15.7 1/4 mile, is it too high?

i went to track today and ran between a 15.7 and a 15.9. I have a jwt popcharger, y-pipe, & greddy exhaust. I have an auto. Is this high. Or is this what i should be expecting. I personally think it sucks. I got beat by a GTP>

With track experience and those mods, yes those times are too high. I would expect a 15.4 or so... but not much less.

I wish my car sucked like yours. I ran consistent 16.8's tonight, with a best of 16.2. Can't wait to get my y-pipe on.

Only 5spd could pull mid 14s NA.

I think your time is about right for an auto. I could only hit consistent 15.6s lately. My mods are: ypipe, cai, rt cat, vb mod, and catback exhaust. I'm more disappointed than you to be honest. I only been to the track maybe a total of three times, so I think with more experience I could do better.

What year and trim is your car? How many options? Do you have a heavy stereo/rims or other stuff similar?

What was your reaction time?

that sounds okay, but not too high... I'd say 15.3 or so would be more fit for you, although "mzmtg" ran 15.2 with just an intake i believe and an automatic. While DCmax ran 15.1 with a bunch of stuff, intake, y pipe, Ecu i believe..

There will always be a few faster cars out there like Mzmtg's and Deezo stock auto. Most people though are more in the mid 15s to low 15s NA. Stock, most are in the high 15s to 16s.

95emeraldgxe: sorry but I'm very skeptical that you ran a 15.6 stock. I know Deezo ran that, but I think he's the only one that ran that stock.

You shouldn't feel so bad

I'm dying here - first night at the track and I am very

The particulars:
3075ft. Elevation
82 degrees out
RUN1
R/T .838
60' 2.452
330' 6.841
1/8 10.442
MPH 67.90
1000' 13.543
1/4 16.138
MPH 86.11
RUN2
R/T .572
60' 2.397
330' 6.716
1/8 10.360
MPH 67.13
1000' 13.491
1/4 16.139
MPH 84.77

Here's the car info:
97SE 5spd, Cattman CAI(monsterflow), WSP Y-pipe, 17x8 OZ Superleggera
wheels with 245/40 NITTO 555ZR tires, 90% full tank, tires at 34psi,
and me at 305lbs. in the car.

What should I attack first, aside from finishing in 3rd, which I
didn't do on the 2nd run. The rims are 17.5lbs. each but with tires
on they run right at 42lbs total. Is something amiss here or is this
a function of temperature, altitude and so accounting for maybe a
few tenths to 1/2 a second? I'd have been happy around 15.4 but
that's MILES away from 16.138.

HELP???????

I seriously would think the auto max, particularly modded would be higher then that. My mom's absolutely bone stock 98 Camry v6 automatic runs consistent 15.5's with the best at 15.443. And thats without gutting, without tire pressure and 1/2 tank of gas.

Post your slip, if we can see the 60fts, the MPHs, etc we can better see whats going on.

I trashed that slip a long time ago. I was not pleased at all to say the least, so I threw that out once I got home. Like I said, maybe it's due to my inexperience, only been to the track about three times. It could be on the launch because each time I would get a bit too much wheel spin. Anway, I'll be going again soon, so hopefully I'll do better.

Hey man, I have a automagic gle, stock as stock can get and my best to date is 15.5. thats with staging lights going straight to green instead of going through the tree. The reason for this is that this particular night was called club 1320, where you race like how you would on the street but on an actual track. and another ****er is that they dont give time slips. So i think with a actual tree I might even be able to get a 15.4. Some thing you might want to try is putting your front tire pressure to about 20psi or a little higher but not much. Another ? I have is how did you run your car, did you shift from like 1, 2, D, or 2, D, and did you have your over drive off this makes a slight difference. Lemme know

I think there'll be another Import Day at the Hattiesburg track soon. We might go then. Are you taking any summer classes? I am, but of course I'll find a way to go.

The times vary because of different track, condition, weather, etc. Stock autos running mid 15s? I only know Deezo that ran that. I think he has a time slip to prove it. I don't know about the other guys. I'm kind of skeptical, especially that 95emeraldgxe guy, he usually post a whole bunch of nonesense, so his credibility is questionable.

Nothing personal 95emeraldgxe, but you have to understand with the stuff you posted in the past and even now, your credibility is very questionable.

There are alot of factors like stated above. I ran i best of 16.52@85 with the mods that are in my sig, but the elevation was 5830 ft, now im not stating this as a 100% but thats like a 15.2-15.3 at sea level. I think you just need work on your launch, cause that can make a big difference.

I made my first trip to the track on 14 Apr 02 my best time was 16.203 at 85 mph.

On 11 May 02 I ran 13.8 at 100. Of course I spent a few bucks in the meantime and did a lot of reading and experimenting but what you ran is pretty good considering.

BTW I am still only 15.4 N/A, and I am running a 2.2-2.3 60' which I am working on. I have spent over $2k in the last couple of months on mods.

Trust me dude. I was with you at the track tonight and most people were running about 4 tenths slower than they usually do. Also it was your first time at a track, Capitol Raceway is NOT a good track, and it was about 84 degrees the entire night.

I'll bet you you'll be in the 15.8 range at MIR.

Is there a formula for compensating for altitude and temperature?
Say something that brings you back to sea level at 70 degrees or some
other factors? Just wondering whether the numbers above are
completely off the cuff or if there is a guideline to use.

Ive never found a conversion for temperature but this site has all kinds of calculators including altitude.

There are all kinds of tricks -- do a search, there are plenty of threads on this topic. Overdrive on/off makes no difference I can attest to that.

At the line I usually hold the brake and accelerate to about 1100 RPM and then floor it and remove my foot from the brake simultaneously at the green.
