got new rotors and pads installed...break in period?

Today I got my Brembo cross drilled/slotted rotors and Raybestos Quiet Stop brake pads installed with the help of JAY25. Thanks a lot Jaime! Only the front was done.

Now what's the break in period for the rotors and pads? Jaime told me to take it easy for awhile. I tried, but I had to test the rotors and pads out when I was going home because of some crazy drivers. Anyway, when I came home, I noticed there was steam/smoke coming out from the rotors/pads. This is because they're brand new right?

I usually do 2-3 medium effort stops from 45 mph and then let the brakes cool for a while just driving. Then I do 2-3 medium to hard stops from 60 mph and then just drive for a while to let them cool. They will smoke a little after the second or 3rd stop. This is normal for the bedding in process and not a big deal, just let the brakes cool off slowly and do not keep your foot on the pedal when they are smoking after you stop, that could warp your new rotors.

Really? Were you in your Maxima? I don't remember seeing your car. I bought the rotors for $165 shipped from a member that's selling his car. I bought the pads from PepBoys, forgot the amount.

DrivinDaMax98: see above for price. I bought them because my passenger side rotor was warped. I needed new rotors, so I thought I might as well get some good ones instead of the OEM ones. I'll get them for the rear too later on.

Btw, I noticed much better braking with the rotors. Also, the Quiet Stop brake pads seem to be pretty good too. There was a slight noise from the pads, maybe because they're brand new. I didn't put any of the anti-squeal on them though. I'll update on how these rotors and pads are after some break in period.

How much new? Sounds like a good price to me. How does the price compare to nissan rotors? Do any kind of pads brake at the same distance, and the rotors are what matters?

I'm not sure how much the rotors go for elsewhere. Nissan rotors should be a bit cheaper I think.

cus my passenger front makes a scatching noise when i drive
slowly like in a paring lot...i dont know if anyhting is wrong

Warped rotors show up as a pulse or vibration when the brakes are applied. It sounds lie your's aren't releasing all the way on that side, so they are still engaged a little. That would account for the scratching sounds and the extra heat on that side. The caliper is probably binding on it's pins and not traveling freely or the piston itself is catching, which would necessitate a replacement or rebuild of the caliper. I'd take it apart and regrease the pins and see if that helps. If not rebuild or replace it.

The compound of the pad is way more critical to the actual stopping power of the car than the rotor is. The slotted or cross drilled rotors will cool better so you'll be more fade resistant, but this only comes into play under extreme conditions.

I run cheapo Autozone blanks on mine with good pads and the car will stop on a dime. Since you probably won't replace them as often as I do, I would just get a high quality blank rotor or if you like the looks, slotted, but the slotted really isn't necessary for street driving. I'd spend the money on a good pad instead.
