Hit the Rev Limiter at 105mph in 4th gear!

I don't know if it was because I had the gas light on and going up a hill, but the damn rev limiter kicked in! I mean the gas just shut off! It was only at like 5K rpms! WTF! I have taken 4th to like 110mph before I don't understand why it would be doing that! I guess I really need to install that apexi RSM thats been lying around for a few months. Oh yeah I was racing a street bike! Had some fun, but of course he durshed me!

An auto is almost impossible unless you manually shift it to over rev the engine. But, topend should be somewhere near 130-138mph. As far as Circo's question, you got me.

That is very strange. I hit the rev limiter in 3rd doing around 105-110mph. Maybe the gearing is different. But it seems you are not getting all the power there.

It's gotta be the fact that you were low on gas. I've been past 105 in 4th with no limiter kicking in.

One time I was real low on gas and the same thing happened to me as I was going uphill. As I reached the top and began the descent everything was fine again. Of course I hit the next gas station.

Seems like I read in a previous post that the GXE's are rev limited to 105 mph because of the stock tires that originally come on the car.

the rev limiter doesnt cut off the fuel. the governer does and i think your GXE can get up to about 120 at least without hitting the SPEED limiter. i have a feeling it was because you were low on gas. once or twice ive been so low on gas that my car just shuts off but then starts right back up. while going up hill the engine was probably just not getting enough gas and thought there was none left.

maybe two things..

you had overdrive off...

or your tire size is throwing your speedo off.

When i first got my car (2k auto se) I got around 140 and hit the cut off. Dont know the exact speed was worried about the road not the speed.

Ive had my 2k gxe auto to 129 once and 120+ several times. Never had the limiter kick in.

but my car also came w/ the comfort and convienience package which comes with 16s and a power driver seat. I think the ecu was also programmed for a higher top speed due to the upgraded wheels.

So who knows.

I know I have taken my car to 130mph before with no rev limiter kicking in. Also when the rev limiter kicks in it feels like your tranny just dropped. This was not the case here. It just felt like there was no gas! I don't know I am going to install RSM on saturday!

circo,

did it feel like you got backed off your speed, or did it feel like the gas stopped flowing?? it almost sounds like you hit fuel cut, which would be a bad thing....

at the moment i have a BONE stock 2k1 gxe 5spd... i've never gotten backed off my speed unless i pinned the tach...

The rev limter will make a sound like dur dur dur and the car will be stuttering! I have done it in first only holding past redline. The Fuel cut was a TSB that made your car buck right! I had that fix done to my ECU a year ago! I think it was because i was going up a hill a kind steep grade and was very low on fuel come to find out! I tested it today and nothing happend at 110 in 4th! Must have been the gas

Bunch of bull. My car is exactly like Circo's: 2k GXE manual, and came with 15" steelies. I did at least 120 in 4th and didn't redline. As far as the speed limiter on a GXE without CC package, I dont know. Took her up to 135 and could still keep going. Circo- you may need to talk to Nissan tech about your problem.

My guess is speed limiter.

As did I! I am assuming it was because I was low on gas, but I think I will take it in just to be sure! Maybe get a ECU reprogram! Do the SE and GLE have a completely different ECU or is it just a program? Cuz if it is then I will ask them to reprogram to SE specs?

the RSM allows for a speed limter removal...not the rev limiter..

it could be due to other things...running really low on fuel..burned O2 sensor..

I doubt there's a difference in ECUs except for wheel size. As we have some ppl say here GXEs come w/o speed limited whereas GLEs do. Now think if you want them to reprogram your ECU (if they'll do it too!)
