Just a question. I was reading the 4th gen board and they have at least two threads talking about beating Camry's in 4th gens. Replies were VERY mixed. Just want to know what y'all's opinions are of Camrys and how many we've beat. I know my opinion on 'em...

Maximas vs. Camry

All I know is that my 89 Maxima(manual) is much more powerful than the 98 Honda Accord V6. No competition whatsoever. I was wondering, how many valves does an 89 Maxima have? The new models today have 24 valves.

I drive cars for work. drive them about 80 miles.. I've driven several 98 99 00 01 camrys 4runners and avalons. I havnet driven a new avalon just a 97. they are all really slow. even the 4runner's with the sr5 option or whatever it is. I think any max could take a camry

My dad has a newer Avalon. The V6 has 200 or so hp. I have driven this car and stomped on it. It's more or less comparable to my VE 5-sp. So I think it would beat a VG powered maxima unless highly modded.

I agree....

My friend's mom's Avalon is pretty quick! with the extra power button on it pulled on my stock VG(not that my current mods would really make a difference ), not much, much more powerful, but none the less a good car!!

my inlaws have a 2000 Avalon.. Nice roomy car and has all the neat options that my car didnt come with like that digital compass on the mirror. Didnt drive it but Im pretty sure I could take if we were to race.. I think they are more the luxury type car than sport sedan like the Maxima.

I believe the Avalons have the same motor as a Camry V6...so if an Avalon can keep up or beat a Maxima...a v6 camry should beat one. I know the motors LOOK the same(3.0 DOHC) but they coulda changed some stuff to get more out of em for the bigger Avalon i duno. Just my .02

My friends parents got a 99 V-6 camry and I whoop it in my VG auto. I know that anyone with a VE or a 5-speed of either engine would totaly destroy it. They are slow. Even a new accord V-6 would take the camry any day.

'99 Avalon....

raced his mom from the lot, she edged me but only by a little!! I think if I had put it in "P" mode I could have beat her! but shes crazy, took the Avalon up 130 once on I95, got ot NY in 2-2.5 hours from DC!!!!!

I don't think the 2000 V6 Accord.....

can take a 5spd VE! yes probably a VG and a VG 5spd(maybe not totally???), but it definently won't take a VE EASILY?!?! I drove the new Accord V6 and I like it very much and it could take my VG, but not a 5spd VE, plus I doubt the Accord can hit less than a 7.0 0-60!?!?!?

on the go, both cars pull rather hard for what they are. I give my max some credit staying with a car that's 6 years newer, but as far as reliability goes, I'd sway for the accord. That VE motor has issues.

as far as camry's go

I've never loss to any camrys before....not even solaras...I don't think I spelled that right....but from what I've heard, there's a guy around my neck of the woods with a new style camry STOCK 5-spd running a 14.9 in the 1/4 mile. GO to boostaholic.com, it's a friend of mine's site about his supra and 4th gen, but I remember somewhere on his site has pics and stuff about this camry.

We've got a '93 SE spd and a '99 Camry V6 auto in this house. The Maxima is faster...no question.

i've raced 3 or 4 camrys in the last year or so and beat them all. i raced a 5spd that pulled me off the line but i caught him and beat him. i've raced the older and newer ones and to me it seems the newer ones are a bit faster. they kept up better than i thought they would but i still beat them all. and i have yet to race an avalon, i cant ever get any of them to race me.

Ok, since I started this thread, I will go ahead and put in my 2 cents...my sister has a '97 V6 XLE auto and I have a '93 SE 5-Spd. I have taken her camry with ease. I have also raced a 2-door LE V-6 looked like an early '90's model. Never raced a standard Camry, though. My honest opinion, the guy on here who said an Accord is faster than a 3rd gen Maxima...check this out. My car is BONE STOCK (for now) and I have embarassed all engines of the new Accords. Yep, the V6 coupe, the 4 banger coupe, the V6 four door, AND the 4 banger four door. They were all autos, but I would bet my money I could take a standard. But there is always the driver factor. It all depends on that.
