popping sound when clutch engages

last couple weeks ive had some weird noises. when im taking off, maybe a milisecond after the clutch engages i get a popping sort of noise coming from the drivers wheel, or right in front of me im not sure, i just know its directly in front of me. i didnt relate it to the clutch until i was in my driveway and would let it engage with no gas at all and at the catch point everytime, it would give me the popping noise when it engages and a couple seconds after while the wheels were rolling. its not a pritty noise and its def worrying me, anyone? thanks

does it just pop once or does it do it several times, if it does it several times then you probably have the infamous clutch chatter

Transmission?

CV Joints?

Pressure Plate?

Throwout Bearing? - Naa that would only make noise while your disengauged.

Pilot Bearing?

Slave Cylinder?

Just a few items to think about.

I had the same type of sound that you're describing a few months ago, and for the life of me I couldn't figure it out.

Turns out that I had 1 REALLY lose lug nut on the drivers front wheel.

pop a couple times, but its not like the car shakes or chatters or anything, u just hear them, and somewhat feel them under ur foot, but no actual chatter, more just hear them. i think when i let my friend take it out he destroyed it and clutch is on its last life, its not slippin at all though, just catchin rilly soft and makin those noises

hmm...you could do the 5th gear test to see if it slips, how old is the clutch???

The fifth gear test is putting the car in 5th gear while at about 40-45mph to keep the engine revs low. Then, when you're in gear, floor the gas. If the engine revs but doesn't pick up speed, the clutch is slipping enough to where you should replace it. However, you already said it's not slipping so I dunno if this applies, but give it a try anyway and see what happens.

sorry..forgot to explain the 5th gear test...anyway from what you have said above, sounds like the clutch is toasted, even if it does pass the 5th gear test, I would start looking into it.

CV Joint?
I was thinking CV joint too, but it's probably a worn clutch plate.
