Got burned by a saab 900s???

OK so last night Im heading home down this small 2 lane highway. Stop at a light and some wuss pulls up next to me in a saab 900s convertable with his girl in the car and starts reving. Ive got a 98 5-spd with a jwt intake. I figure I can smoke him. Light turns green and we both punch it. Kid dusted me through 2nd gear...I caught up a bit in third but never got past him. Are saabs fast or does my car blow?

Drivetrain
Engines
2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve inline-4. 150 hp @ 5,700 rpm, 154 lb-ft torque @ 4,300 rpm (1997 only)
2.0-liter Turbocharged DOHC 16-valve inline-4. 185 hp @ 5,500 rpm, 194 lb-ft torque* @ 2,100
2.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V-6 170 HP @ 5900 rpm, 167lb-ft torque @ 4,200 rpm (1997 SE)

I don't know what to tell you... Maybe it was a Saab 9-3... those are pretty damn quick.. the 900s, I don't know about those, maybe he had the 2nd engine option.. it's slightly lighter than the max so he might've had an edge, especially with the torque peak of 194lb-ft at 2100rpm

Tooooo funny!

I detailed a 9-5 Saab 2 weekends ago. It's actually a pretty descent car. Nice thick leather seats along with some other goodies in the interrior. Pretty nice design, didn't really drive it so I have no clue how it performs. The paint came out really nice after it was cleaned and waxed.

my mom has a 2000 saab 9-3 and let me tell you it's a fantastic car. the car overall is very solid and the engine is very peppy for a 4 cylinder. although it's not as fast as my max (close) the turbo makes it so much more fun to drive and even stock the handling is great... almost as good as my car with kyb's and b & g springs. if her car was a 5 speed i would be in love.

interior is top notch also. overall the car feels very very well built.

My family have a 98 saab 900 turbo conv. It is running about 15 psi and puts down about 230hp at the wheels. Not all saabs suck!!!!

It was probably just a stock turbo 900s. Just like any factory turbo car, big power is easy to be had, all it takes is a little extra boost. Those cars have an incredibly tall 1st gear, but once they get moving they move well. If he took you off the line, you just suck at launching (or at least you sucked on that particular launch). My friend has a 900s convertible turbo and I pull him hard in 1st gear, but 2nd and 3rd I pull much less.

Saab turbos can put down 270 hp and 300 tq to the wheels with minimal mods.

The saab does have some serious traction problems at the top of first, and mostly through second gear which requires some restraint on the throttle, but in 3rd and 4th it would have wasted any NA max.
