yeah they keep the springs from launching of the strut when you are doing work on the strut assymbly. and your gonna need them when you put the assymbly back toghter.

I think this spring compressor looks very flimsy.

yeah you would need these if your changing springs or struts.

I have one exactly like that, I bought it yesterday and changed both front and rear springs today with it. Works great.
