looking for single 12" sub to match amp...

currently i'm running a cerwin vega-vega 12d4 in a ported box, powered by a JBL BP600.1 (thanks blakrob). anyway..i'm looking for a new sub that can handle more power..gains on the amp are at about a quarter.
any suggestions? i was looking at audiobahn subs, will they handle around 400w rms? SQ? SPL?
i want it loud, but i want some semblence of sound quality...
also, i cant spend more than $150 shipped/taxed for the sub (i'll build the enclosure so thats no big deal).
thanks

Look at infinity perfects. A good mix of spl and sq in my opinion, and the 12"s can be found for around $150-175 new. www.smilephotovideo.com sells them (at least the dvcs) for $179 I believe - ebay might turn up better results though. They make an svc and a dvc (dual 4s), both take 350W rms, so depending on what impedance the JBL puts out 400w rms at, you could probably find a match (the dvc could be wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load, and the svc is 4 ohms).

There's not a whole lot else I could think of in that price range, for that much power, without being a completely sloppy SPL woofer.

so the audiobahns are just sloppy? also, i'd need dual 4ohm coils, i want to run it at 2ohms and just keep the gains below max.
also, i've seen the combo of bp1200.1 and 2 perfect 12.1s..basically 1 12.1 and my amp would "half" that..
how about a JL 12w3? i could also deal with 2 10s, but they would need to be less than $150 for both, and i dont think thats possible..

I'm not familiar with/haven't heard audiobahns. You might want to find someone that has heard both the audiobahns in question and the perfect 12 DVC. Sounds like the perfect 12 dvc would work out just fine with that amp...they're rated at 350w rms, but I think they could handle a little more juice than that (ie, if your amp puts out 400w rms x 1 @ 2ohms)

You want to spend $150 for two subs? If that's the case, I'd hold off a little while. I've had Audiobahn subs before. They are defiantely not SQ subs. SQ is okay, but not great. They will take a ton of power and will get loud, especially ported. If you want to spend $150/sub, look into Alpine Type R. These are great subs, very similar to the Infinity Perfects mentioned, only a little cheaper. You can get them for around $125 for ikesound.com. That price includes shipping. If you can deal with a single 12" than the Perfects or the Type R's shouldn't have a problem with 600 RMS even though they are rated lower. You might want to keep the gain down though as the JBL will put out around 650-700 watts. There are a lot of other options too, but those are the subs I have heard myself.

i prefer a single 12"..but if i there isnt anything worth my while, i'd like 2 10"s..as little sense as that makes.
i just want to put more power to a sub...
also, as far as the audiobahn's go, if they sound the same or better than my vega vega, then i'll take it. my requirements: dual 4ohm coils, 600ish watts RMS, smaller enclosure (say under 3cu-ft), as good or better sounding than my current sub.

There are a lot of subs that can play loud. There just aren't many that can do it cleanly. But if you want loud, steer clear of the SQ subs as they won't sound as loud. That's the thing about distortion. What we perceive as loud, is really distortion. A really good sub can hit the same numbers on the meter, but you'll barely be able to hear it. When you start hearing your sub, that distortion, frequently higher frequency energy. But for the money you have look into DD designs, http://www.ddaudio.com/
or audiomobile, or any other high power sub in that price range. Also consider checking parts express. They have Dayton and several other brands, typically of equal or better quality than big name brands, at much better prices.
