Repeat Maxima manual buyers: how do you compare the clutch

I just drove a 98 GXE 5 spd and the clutch felt so much different. Even though the clutch remains hydralic in 4th and 5th gen, the 4th gen has near instant engagement compared to my lazy 5th gen.

On my car, in comparison, it takes a lot of pedal movement to engage, and the pedal is up high. The tech at dealership said its normal but I dont trust him. There weren't any 2K manuals avail at the dealership for test drive comparison. What do you say?
