Noise when ignition turned to "acc" position
Noise when ignition turned to "acc" position
I need your guys help. When I turn the key to ACC position (just before crank) I hear a humming sound from the engine....it sounds like something in the engine compartment is adjusting and this item needs lubrication or something. It does not do this all the time.
Anybody know what engine components adjust upon turning the ignition to the acc position...this might narrow it down to what it may be. Originally I thought it was my IAC valve but I just removed and cleaned that unit this weekend. Can anybody help?
By the way I have a 98 auto.
THanks

Should it be doing this? It seems to be getting worse and worse.

That's what the punp is suppose to do. Right when you put it to the ACC position, power is delivered to the pump, and it pumps till the lines have pressure in them...
I dont notice the humming to often, but i read that, that is suppose to happen...
Like said above- dont worry about it.....
Oh wait, i just had a theory- maybe there is a slight pressure leak in the lines, so it seems the humming is getting worse because of excess loss pressure...like I said, this is just a theory, so no flaming...

your original post is confusing. You say that you, "...turn the key to ACC position (just before crank)..."
but, the ACC position is not before the crank? Its the "ON" position that is before the crank. It is only when the key is positioned to the "ON" position that the car's fuel pump will pressurize. Are you referring to the position that you can turn on the radio and not use the windows (ACC) or the ON position? If not the ON positoin, then it may not be your fuel pump.

Aaahh tu shay. You are correct. If you turn the ignition to the ON position, the fuel pump pressurizes, but the humming that occurs when you turn the key to ACC is the antenna goin up...
