Nitrious laws?!?!:?!?!?!?!

Can anyone tell me of some existing Nitrious lawz about having it in the car?Everyone I ask tells me something different and I don't know who to believe any more. You see I will admit I do street race , but I want to know just in case the cops search the trunk. Having plenty of experience with racing I have determined that it would be better to leave racing at the track.
Oh ya I live in South Carolina, Redneck country! Hey bubba.

Anything that's not DOT/Carb approved to be used on the street is

illegal!!! This means anything and everything. From light bulbs to turbos. Some nitrous systems are DOT/Carb approved...but most aren't

Tony have you ever been pulled over in this area and had a cop start asking about engine modifications, etc due to your gauge setup?

exactly of why you shouldnt have the nitrous gauge on the pod........

You get caught speeding....officer eyeballs your fancy nitrous gauge.......i'm thinking that will give him probable cause to search your vehicle to assure you are not transporting a hazardous chemical on public roads without a permit.

The permit you get allows you to get your bottle filled and use it for a "race" specific vehicle

just my .02 rant

Exactly. Number one reason i want nothing to do with a gauge pod of any kind. As we speak I'm fabricating a dual gauge holder for an open DIN spot.

Tony and I both live in Fairfax county and to say his car sticks out from the crowd is an understatement at best. I was just asking about his experience with the police is our area.

I was just wondering when nitrous became a hazardous chemical because last time I checked it wasn't , and also you guys have to have permits?, if so it must suck to have nitrous in your state.

Maybe not a hazardous chemical but I dont think you can just cart the crap around on public roads with out some sort of permit.

They need to have probable cause to search your trunk. My nitrous gauge can't be seen from the outside unless he has his whole head inside the window.

I believe in NJ you have to have a permit....Not here in Virginia, DC or Maryland.

It's not illegal to have in the car due to hazardous chemical. It is illegal due to it being an oxidizer in a compressed vessel, like an oxygen tank. Emergency vehicles and commercial vehicles that carry ANY gas under pressure in a tank has to be marked on the outside of the vehicle with a sticker. That is why you see big rigs on the highway with the stickers on the back that say "compressed gas" or something to that effect. The permit is a fee for that sticker and a way for "big brother" to keep tabs.

I would not be very surprised if your state has the same law, and you just don't know about it.
