chip on end of bottle fitting, will it affect anything?
chip on end of bottle fitting, will it affect anything?
I went to get my tank filled (10lb NOS) and the guy there pointed out something to me. On the end of the fitting where the nitrous lines attach to the tank there is a tiny chip. Its very small and not deep, it doesnt touch the threads and doesnt seem to be a problem but he said when he was filling the tank it kept leaking so he took off the fitting and used theirs to fill it. According to what he said, when I open the bottle the nitrous is going to leak out but I dont understand how that would happen. Because the lines screw in, and the threads arent effected how could the N20 leak out? And even so, couldnt I put some sealant on the threads so it doesnt leak when attached and the bottle is open?? I dont think its going to be a problem, but I dont want to try it and waste a full bottle of nitrous. Should I just get a new fitting or does anyone have any ideas??

Do not put sealant on the threads of an AN fitting, only threaded fittings. (BIG NO NO)

Justin its not the threads that make the seal its the angled seat, the threads just hold it together. That is an AN Fitting. If the seat is scored you don't have much choice but to replace the fitting.

Good to have someone close who will help. Hard to tell unless you see it.

Its my bottle. I'm selling Justin my nitrous kit, as I don't plan on using both the SC and the nitrous.

Its pretty easy to bang it on something, they are chrome coated but I believe brass underneath so pretty soft.
