exhaust question

i have a 2002 with stillen intake, b-pipe and a 75 shot. Would a y-pipe and straight pipe make a difference? any other suggestions? i would like headers but they are a little out of budget right now. how about changing my intake to an injen CAI? is it worth it?

Definitely get the Y-pipe. N/A, it adds ~15hp. It's even more beneficial when spraying (or boosting).

They Y-Pipe may add ~15 HP on a 4th Gen but not on a 2k2, the result is very minimal because you are not removing the precats like the 4th Gen Y-Pipe and headers do.

You can get HS Headers for approx $550 which includes the Y-Pipe and the gains are ~20 HP and highly recommended. As far as the rest of the system, the pipe when nearing the muffler is down to less than 2" and is a real bottleneck when running spray.

So, I would recommend the headers, straight pipe and b-pipe as well as replacing the pipe from the end of the B to the muffler. What muffler you use is a personal choice.

I have a Budget straight and B-Pipe. You can get it with or without resonator and its flanged so it can be removed very easily and replaced with just a straight pipe if you want, later on. I have both and without the resonator its pretty hondaish.

thanks Jime, does the headers make a big difference in sound. I'm keeping the stock muffer so the exhaust looks and sounds close to stock, but a nice exhaust tone would be fine. Jime if you don't mine me asking, what did you do to your 2k2 to run 13.5 all motor?

I do hear the engine noise a bit but not much and it really barks when you start it, other than that I really can't tell any difference.

All my mods are posted here and I don't do anything magic it can all be repeated by anyone.

You definately need the duel output because you 2 primary which remain and 2 secondary which you need the simulator for.

You can just extend and install the stock o2 sensors after the cat if you have one, I don't thats why I use the simulator.

I have my main cat right now, I might switch to a straight pipe later. Is it easier to extend the stock o2s or get the simulator? Is one better than the other?

The rear o2's don't really have any function other than to tell the computer if the cat is working or not.

Installing the simulator is easier than welding in 2 bungs behind the cat and extending the o2 sensors, imho. If you are going to a straight pipe later definately do not extend the stock ones its a waste of time and money.

Not really sure, I haven't compared a lot.

However, what I do now is run a wai on the street and then pull the headlight at the track and run a velocity stack in the light opening. However you either have to have a small battery or relocate to do that.

I am just about finished my own creation for an intake and will post a pic when I get done.

Jime I order my hotshot headers yesterday, I done most the work on my car myself, I seem to be able to figure things out fairly easy. Is the install for the headers something i should try myself? Any advise?

Well its not a complex job, I did mine all by myself. However, the location of the header nuts make it very difficult to remove them and I had to buy a couple of extra sockets, crowsfeet, swivels etc. I think I used a different almost for each nut. You also have to remove the intake which is not a big job and is necessary even for plug changes.

Its rewarding when you get it done and save yourself 3 or $400 in labour. Give yourself lots of time ie a couple of days in case you run into a bit of trouble removing some of the nuts etc.

Is a 3" exhaust going to help in any way while spraying? And if it does, how bad is it for NA driving?
thanx

3" will help, but will make NA driving worst since you will loose a lot of low end.

A 3" exhaust will actually help over 2.5" when spraying? Im running stock exhaust with a 50 shot, is the exhaust a major bottle neck or am I loosing only a few hp?
