I won't be spraying for a while....

I now realize why I only ran 13.7 at the track on Sunday. I was only using 5 cylinders. I either bent a valve, or lost a ring or piston. Not sure yet, I will know either tonight or tomorrow. I only have 75 psi in cylinder 1. I had a check engine light on after my first run at the track, but thought it was due to putting in too much race gas, or something silly. I guess it is time to rebuild.

Damn Jason, that's terrible. How many miles were on that motor? Any idea of what would have caused this? You think it happened even before you set up the 2 stage? Any plans to build up the new engine?

Don't be to hard on yourself. The number one cylinder is prone to go lean mearly by the design of the manifold. Seen it happen in a few engines on the max. The problem is that the number one runner opens up way before the others do, thus its much easier for the air to take the path of least resistance. Were you running higher than a dry 100 shot? To remedy this occurance either go wet or direct port if you plan on consistantly running over 100 shot. Or you could make sure you point the spray fan so it disperses(sp) in a vertical pattern and aim the shot to the very back of the neck of the mani were it begins to turn to connect with the rest of the runners.

On a side note....nick you get your system hooked up yet? Damn nice looking car.

Thanks man. You've already been a great help to me, but I'm sure I can think up some more questions to ask!

Jason- Any news on when your getting the engine installed? How many miles are on it? Plans on building the old engine?

he's going to pull off the front head first and see if its just a bent valve. I was up there yesterday dropping off a set od stock heads.

I bought a second car, and plan to start the work after getting it tagged. I believe that it is a bent intake valve, and not much more than that. I have over 128K miles on the car, and have been running it pretty hard for the last 50k. By the way, the second car that I bought is an all motor low 11 second Mustang that just happens to be set up for the addition of a 200 shot. Oh, and I am running wet shot at 125, but dry at 80. I think what happened is in my haste to set up the second stage at the track, I hard wired the switch for stage 2, and I forgot to turn the switch off before I let off the gas. I did it backwards because I am so used to having it turn off automatically. I learned that lesson, and hope to be back with the car soon. I don't think the Mustang will do too good in the snow. Nick, let me know when the stuff comes in, I want to finish up your car and take a ride with the computer. Then I'll scare you in the Stang.

Well, I pulled the head, and the good news is there is no hole in the piston, the bad news is that I don't see anything at all that could explain why this cylinder has stopped firing. I am almost starting to wonder if there was something else wrong. I checked the coil, injector, spark plug, and they all worked when I swapped them with cylinder 2, the problem didn't migrate. I checked this cylinder with a compression tester, and it only registered 75 psi, not 170 like the others. I am going to start the process of installing the new head that I got, and see if it fixes it. This is getting frustrating. Anyone have any thoughts of what it could be? Valves look okay and held WD40 when it was upside down, with no leaks.

Found the problem. Three big grooves in the cylinder wall. New engine time.

so how do your rings cause that bad of a problem to the walls of the cylinder. i mean was there just to much pressure on the cylinder its self or was there just a bad ring.

Since you're gonna be replacing the block anyway, might as well go for the 3.5.

I might go for the 2K2 3.5. I am swapping Corey's old motor in the car right now, and when I'm done, I'm thinking a trade-up might just be in order.
