Exhaust cutout when spraying?
Exhaust cutout when spraying?
Ok, I have been thinking of putting a stock muffler back on when running n/a because i am getting annoyed and tired of my exhaust. When spraying do you guys with experience think i can get as good gains or even better gains with a cutout at the location of the Cat.... i can get a straightpipe and put a cutout on it.
I would think so, I have seen a few NA dynos that showed some gains with cutout open vs. cutout closed so with nitrous you should get better results. Do a search and see if you can come up with any dyno sheets with cutout open and closed.
I remember seeing a dyno comparison on a NA car and the gains were about 6 whp/tq. I have one set up on my car, but since there doesn't seem to be enough room to fit the electric motor to open the cutout, I haven't used it yet. I need more gaskets too.....
yea i remember someone on here with a pretty quick maxima had a Qtec electric cutout and he had some pretty good gains, Mostlikely botton end will be a lil low since theres less backpressure ,would be very beneficial at top end. but in order to get the best out of nitrous a freeflowing exhaust with no backpressure would probably be very beneficial. with my current exaust set up, and a 50shot i get exacly 50whp gain and 61lb tq gains, hopefully with the cutout i can get more out of a 50shot.
may i ask why they are a headache? the one i saw on a 4th gen was huge, and 1st thing that came to my mind was "as soon as this guy goes over a speedbump too fast that cutout motor is goign to stay on the floor" cuz it was too big n low.
where do you recommend i get one with wingnut n gasket

I have the QTP cut out and I had to cut out the rear passenger side floor and raise it 4" to make enough clearance . Its been on 3 years and I've had 2 problems. The screws on the butterfly valve came loose and we welded it in place and the motor was acting up once so they sent me a replacement motor that is easy to install.
On the dyno at JWT I picked up over 20 hp using the valve.
Also, it is fun to open the valve while cruising a car show, people wonder what the hell is under the hood!!
